The role
This is a genuine new-business role. You'll own a compact, dense territory and build it from the ground up — walking the high streets, opening doors, surveying premises, quoting, and converting one-off jobs into recurring annual maintenance contracts.
What you'll be doing
- Prospecting small commercial premises across the territory — door-to-door canvassing, calls, referrals, local networking and business groups
- Carrying out initial site walk-rounds and basic surveys to scope fire, CCTV and security requirements
- Preparing and presenting quotations and maintenance proposals
- Explaining compliance obligations to owners in plain English — what the law expects, what they're missing, what it costs to fix
- Closing recurring annual maintenance contracts, not just one-off installs
- Managing the full cycle from first knock to signed contract and clean handover to our engineers
- Keeping pipeline, quotes and customer records accurate in our CRM and job management system
- Building a referral network with local landlords, letting agents, managing agents and trade contacts
- Feeding back on pricing, competitors and what's actually landing in the market
What you need
Essential
- Proven sales or business development experience in fire safety, CCTV, security systems or a closely related trade
- Working knowledge of fire alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting, CCTV, access control and intruder alarms — enough to hold a credible technical conversation and scope a site
- Understanding of the compliance landscape small businesses face (fire risk assessment duties, servicing intervals, what a responsible person is on the hook for)
- Track record of self-generated new business — you're comfortable with cold approaches and don't need leads handed to you
- Confident dealing directly with owner-managers and decision-makers
- Organised and self-managing, with the discipline to run your own diary and territory
- Full UK driving licence or willing to use Public transport.
Desirable
- Familiarity with BS 5839, BS 5266, BS 5306 or equivalent standards
- Awareness of BAFE, NSI or SSAIB accreditation requirements
- Experience selling service and maintenance contracts rather than projects
- Existing contacts across South West London's commercial and retail sector
- Awareness of Martyn's Law (Terrorism Protection of Premises Act 2025) and its implications for venues
- Technical background or engineering experience alongside the sales side
Pay: £25,420.00-£40,000.00 per year
