Brief Description of Role
To source, book, schedule and plan intermodal resource across Europe from approved shipping and rail providers, in budget, and with a principal focus on customer service.
Key Activities & Responsibilities
Key Activity 1 – Health & Safety approx. 5% time
Responsible for one’s own, co-workers and stakeholders health and safety.
Key Activity 2 – Booking of Services approx. 40% time
Ensure all intermodal bookings for shipping, barge and rail are made in a timely fashion. Prioritise bookings that require advance booking due to potential capacity issues.
Execute full booking details with attention to detail on the specifics of the booking to avoid delays and non-shipment. Also verify booking confirmations received are for the exact service requested.
Track progress of all bookings from beginning to end and keep the system updated as close to real time as possible.
Key Activity 3 – Inter-departmental Communication approx. 25% time
Effectively communicate any changes, delays or disruptions to normal schedules and routings. Where possible provide alternative solutions and cost implications.
Ensure all relevant departments are advised of the impact of changes in a timely fashion, such as truck planners to amend collection times and customer service team to keep customers informed.
Key Activity 4 – Improvement Planning approx. 10% time
Research and discuss with operators new and potential services and share details with pricing, commercial and operations teams. These include services that offer an improvement on cost, transit or serve as a back-up solution.
Continually review service performance and capacity capabilities of approved carriers, highlighting under-performing carriers to your superior.
Key Activity 5 – Cost Management approx. 20% time
Assist with invoice processing of the intermodal supplier base and with your team, ensure all invoices are actioned within the required timeframe. Highlight to customer service and pricing teams any incorrect price information held by the company.
Selection Criteria
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge E/D* *Essential/Desirable
- Competent in the use of I.T. system, outlook, excel etc. D
- Good geographical knowledge E
- Reasonable level of mathematics and ability to perform basic calculations E
Experience
- Previous roles in transport planning or within logistics industry E

None although involved in approval of +/- €10million of supplier invoices.
