Job Title: Café Manager / Day-Time Restaurant Manager
Location: Kiln, Ouseburn, Newcastle upon Tyne
Salary: Up-to £33,000 inclusive of TRONC
Job Type: Full-time (42 Hours)
Kiln is one of Newcastle’s most loved neighbourhood venues — a place for coffee, brunch, pottery and people. We’re a restaurant, café and bar all under one roof, but what makes us special is the energy in the room: warm, relaxed, and always personal.
We’re now looking for a Café Manager / Daytime Restaurant Manager to take ownership of everything that happens between 9am and 5pm — someone who lives for great service, knows their way around a coffee machine, and can build genuine relationships with regulars.
This is not a back-office management role. You’ll be on the floor leading from the front — setting standards, training staff, and making sure the daytime atmosphere feels just right. You’ll hand over to the Restaurant Manager in the evenings, so clear communication and teamwork are key.
About the Role
Your focus will be:
- Creating a warm, consistent experience for every guest — from first hello to final coffee.
- Leading and motivating the daytime team to take pride in the small details that make Kiln special.
- Managing daily prep and smooth service transitions into the evening.
- Overseeing coffee standards and training baristas in quality and presentation.
- Keeping the café and bar area spotless, well-organised and inviting throughout the day.
- Taking ownership of stock levels for daytime service (coffee, milk, cakes, soft drinks, disposables).
- Supporting the Restaurant Manager with strong handovers and staff communication.
- Acting as the daytime face of Kiln — getting to know guests by name and encouraging repeat visits.
You’ll be supported with all admin, HR and financial systems by the General Manager — your energy should stay focused on the people, the room, and the product.
About You
- A confident, natural host who makes people feel instantly at ease.
- Experienced in specialty coffee or premium café environments.
- Calm under pressure, with high standards for service, cleanliness and presentation.
- Comfortable giving feedback, training staff and leading by example.
- A team player who understands that hospitality is about consistency, not ego.
- Enthusiastic about Kiln’s mix of food, coffee, ceramics and community.
What You’ll Get
- Competitive Salary, depending on experience
- Generous tips and staff discounts on food, drink, and our handmade ceramics
- A say in how the business runs and grows
- A positive, supportive team culture in one of Ouseburn’s most loved venues
- Company events and team outings
- A chance to be part of something independent, original, and still evolving
Details
- Full-time, permanent role
- Daytime hours (typically 9am–5pm)
- Weekends required
To Apply
If you’re a people-first leader who loves coffee, thrives in a busy room, and believes that hospitality should feel human - we’d love to hear from you.
