About the role
We’re looking for a proper Pub Supervisor to help lead the team at The Bull & Swan.
This is a role for someone who loves real hospitality: a warm welcome, a well-poured pint, a busy Sunday lunch, dogs under the table, a fire in the grate, a garden full of guests, and a team that knows how to look after people properly.
The Bull & Swan is a historic Stamford pub with rooms, food, drink, character, regulars, visitors, dogs, events, garden parties and plenty of personality. It should feel relaxed, warm and full of life — but never sloppy.
As Pub Supervisor, you’ll help set the tone on the floor and behind the bar. You’ll support the team during service, keep standards sharp, and make sure guests feel genuinely looked after from the moment they walk in.
Whether it’s a pint at the bar, dinner in the pub, a Sunday roast, a table in the garden, a dog needing water, or a busy event in the Potting Shed, you’ll help make sure the place feels properly hosted.
What you’ll be doing
Your day-to-day will include:
- Leading by example during busy pub services.
- Supporting the House Manager / Pub Manager with day-to-day standards.
- Serving guests with confidence, warmth and personality.
- Helping run the floor, bar and garden areas during service.
- Making sure the pub feels welcoming, tidy and full of atmosphere.
- Keeping an eye on lighting, music, fire, cleanliness, table presentation and guest comfort.
- Supporting pre-service briefings so the team know what’s happening.
- Helping with opening and closing duties.
- Supporting food service, bar service, Sunday lunches and events.
- Keeping the bar clean, stocked and ready.
- Looking after regulars, locals, hotel guests, families, walkers and dog owners.
- Handling guest questions and small issues calmly and professionally.
- Communicating clearly with the kitchen and wider team.
- Reporting maintenance, repair or guest-related issues promptly.
- Supporting stock control and cash/card procedures where required.
About you
You’ll be a good fit if you:
- Have experience in pubs, restaurants, hotels or quality hospitality.
- Enjoy being on the floor and leading from the front.
- Are confident with guests and calm when service gets busy.
- Know that relaxed service still needs proper standards.
- Care about atmosphere, detail and guest experience.
- Can support and motivate a team without making a drama out of it.
- Communicate well with the kitchen, managers and wider team.
- Have a genuine love of food, drink, pubs and people.
- Are happy working evenings, weekends and busy services.
You do not need to be overly polished.
You do need to care, notice things, and take pride in a proper pub done well.
Who you’ll report to
You’ll report to our House Manager / Pub Manager and work closely with the kitchen, bar, events and wider Woodford team.
