About Herts Ability
Herts Ability is a charity based in Welwyn Garden City. We are accredited by Driving Mobility and support people to gain, regain or retain independence through driving, travel and transport.
Our driving school provides specialist driving tuition for people with disabilities, medical conditions, neurodiversity and learning difficulties. We are now looking for an Approved Driving Instructor to join our employed team.
This is a paid employee role with Herts Ability. It is not a training course, franchise or self-employed opportunity.
About the role
You will provide driving tuition to learner drivers and full licence holders who have attended a driving assessment with Herts Ability.
You will deliver lessons in a range of manual, automatic and adapted vehicles. Lessons will start and finish at Herts Ability’s head office in Welwyn Garden City.
The role includes:
Giving driving tuition to learners and full licence holders
Supporting clients who use adapted vehicles
Helping clients build safe and responsible driving skills
Providing support with theory test preparation where needed
Giving advice to clients and staff on driving, licensing and vehicle adaptations
Working with occupational therapists, driving assessors and other members of the team
Completing records and reports as required
Supporting vehicle management and driving safety work
Taking part in regular CPD and staff training
If a lesson slot is cancelled or unfilled, you will be given other duties, CPD or training tasks during your paid working time.
About you
You must be an Approved Driving Instructor and hold current ADI registration.
You will also need to:
Have a calm and supportive approach
Be interested in helping people with a range of needs
Have good communication and listening skills
Be organised and reliable
Work well on your own and as part of a team
Be open to learning about vehicle adaptations and specialist driving tuition

Pay: £35,000.00 per year
