About the Role
Sun Play Therapy is currently seeking a highly experienced Specialist SEND Practitioner / Tutor to support a young person with complex communication and behavioural needs on a 1:1 basis.
This role requires a calm, consistent, and highly skilled practitioner who is confident supporting children with severe communication difficulties, sensory needs, emotional regulation challenges, and behaviours that may place themselves at risk.
The practitioner will deliver therapeutic, play-based, and sensory-led sessions within community settings while maintaining strong communication and consistency with the wider therapeutic team and family.
Essential Requirements
- Fluent and up-to-date Makaton Level 4 qualification
- Training and experience in Intensive Interaction
- Significant experience supporting children with severe SEND and complex behavioural needs
- Experience managing behaviours that challenge, including self-injurious behaviours
- Experience using positive behaviour support and de-escalation strategies
- Confident working independently in community settings
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and professional boundaries
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle preferred
Desirable
- Experience within Alternative Provision or therapeutic education
- Background in play therapy, sensory integration approaches, or trauma-informed practice
- Experience supporting non-speaking or minimally verbal children
