Job Overview
We are seeking a reliable, organised, and detail-orientated bookkeeper to join our law firm based in Hornchurch. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, managing day-to-day bookkeeping functions, processing accounts payable and receivable, performing bank reconciliations, preparing invoices and financial reports, assisting with VAT returns, and supporting the firm's overall financial operations. Applicants must have proven experience using Xero accounting software, excellent knowledge of bookkeeping principles, strong Microsoft Excel skills, and the ability to work accurately while maintaining strict confidentiality. Previous bookkeeping experience within a law firm or the legal sector is preferred, and familiarity with the Solicitors Accounts Rules (SRA Accounts Rules) would be an advantage. The ideal candidate will possess excellent organisational and communication skills, be able to work independently and as part of a team, and demonstrate a proactive and professional approach to their work. Salary is negotiable and will be based on experience and qualifications.
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping activities, including recording financial transactions accurately using recognised accounting software Xero.
- Maintain up-to-date accounts payable records, ensuring timely processing of invoices and payments.
- Reconcile bank statements and credit card accounts regularly to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data.
- Assist in preparing financial reports, statements, and summaries for management review.
- Collaborate with external accountants or auditors during audits or financial reviews.
- Ensure compliance with organisational policies and relevant financial regulations.
- Organise and file financial documents systematically for easy retrieval and audit purposes.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a bookkeeper or in a similar role within a professional environment.
- Proficiency in the recognised accounting software Xero is essential.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, including accounts payable procedures.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and record-keeping.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- The ability to work independently as well as part of a team is essential.
- Relevant qualifications or certifications in bookkeeping or accounting are desirable but not mandatory.
Pay: From £24,500.00 per year
