We are seeking an empathetic, resilient and proactive Post-16 Learning Support Assistant to join a specialist SEN provision within a college in the London Borough of Greenwich, starting in September 2026.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with additional needs and wants to play a meaningful role in their education, wellbeing, confidence and future independence.
You will provide dedicated 1:1 and small-group support to students aged 16–19, helping them access their chosen courses and engage positively in college life.
Students may have a range of needs, including SEMH, anxiety, ASD, ADHD, behavioural difficulties and Down syndrome. Some students may also present with complex emotional and mental health needs, so the ability to remain calm, compassionate and professional in challenging situations is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality 1:1 and small-group support in the classroom and throughout the college.
- Help students access their chosen courses and participate fully in education.
- Support students to develop their confidence, independence, communication and social skills.
- Build positive, trusting relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
- Respond calmly and appropriately to emotional, behavioural and additional needs.
- Encourage students to develop greater independence while providing appropriate levels of support.
- Follow individual support plans and adapt your approach to meet students' needs.
- Work closely with teachers, SEN staff and other professionals to ensure students receive consistent support.
- Maintain a strong commitment to safeguarding, student safety and wellbeing.
- Follow all college safeguarding procedures, policies and professional expectations.
- Recognise and appropriately report safeguarding or welfare concerns.

Previous experience working with SEN, ASD, ADHD, SEMH, behavioural difficulties or challenging behaviour would be highly desirable.
Experience of supporting young people with complex emotional needs would also be advantageous, although the right attitude, resilience and commitment to supporting students are equally important.
