The Old Vicarage Day Nursery is a warm, welcoming and nurturing environment where children are encouraged to learn, grow and thrive. We believe that healthy eating plays a vital role in children's development, and we're looking for a caring and reliable Kitchen Assistant to support our nursery kitchen team.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys preparing food, takes pride in maintaining high standards and wants to play an important role in supporting children's wellbeing.
About the Role
Working alongside our Nursery Cook, you will help prepare and serve nutritious meals and snacks for children aged 0–5 years. You will support the smooth running of the kitchen, maintain excellent hygiene standards and ensure children receive safe, healthy and enjoyable meals each day.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation and serving of meals, snacks and refreshments.
- Support the Nursery Cook with daily food preparation tasks.
- Prepare ingredients and basic food items following recipes and instructions.
- Wash, clean and store kitchen equipment and utensils.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness throughout the kitchen and food preparation areas.
- Complete cleaning schedules and daily kitchen records.
- Assist with receiving and storing food deliveries.
- Support stock rotation and minimise food waste.
- Ensure all allergy information and dietary requirements are followed carefully.
- Adhere to food hygiene, health and safety, and safeguarding procedures at all times.
- Work as part of the wider nursery team to create positive mealtime experiences for children.
We're Looking For Someone Who:
- Is reliable, organised and able to work efficiently.
- Enjoys working as part of a team.
- Understands the importance of food hygiene and cleanliness.
- Has experience working in a kitchen, catering or food preparation environment (desirable but not essential).
- Holds a Food Hygiene Certificate or is willing to undertake training.
- Shares our passion for supporting children's health and wellbeing.
- Has a positive, flexible and can-do attitude.
