General Overview
FearFree delivers services across the Southwest for victims, children and perpetrators of domestic abuse, sexual violence and stalking. Our aim is to break the cycle of abuse and support everyone to live free from fear. FearFree’s work is always trauma-informed, and this post within the ITRS will be fundamental in ensuring that our service users and partner agencies continue to experience this in their engagement with our organisation.
The Interpersonal Trauma Response Service (ITRS) works alongside Primary Care in Devon to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of people who have experienced or caused domestic abuse and/or sexual violence (DASV). ITRS Adult Trauma Practitioners (ATPs) provide specialist training to GP surgeries, and subsequent 1:1 support to service users referred in by the GP Practice.
Alongside your ITRS team members you will provide specialist training to GP surgeries across Devon to improve identification, enquiry, and response for DASV patients. You will be the allocated ITRS practitioner to specific GP surgeries and will provide staff and patients advice and support.
As an ITRS Adult Practitioner you will hold a caseload of service users. You will provide them with trauma-stabilisation and risk management support addressing their current needs and goals.
FearFree provides a specialist sexual violence support service for adult men across Devon and Torbay (excluding Plymouth), in partnership with Devon Rape Crisis and Sexual Abuse Services (DRCSAS). This role forms part of that dedicated provision, supporting male survivors.
The service offers trauma-informed, needs-led support (distinct from therapy), focusing on trauma stabilisation, psychoeducation, emotional regulation and recovery. Support is delivered through both individual and group interventions, enabling survivors to manage the immediate impact of trauma while building resilience, confidence, and overall wellbeing.
FearFree promotes flexible and hybrid working, and this role will include a combination of home working, office-based work, and travel to meet service users, attend multi-agency meetings, and support wider service delivery.
The role will require flexibility, including occasional evening and weekend work to meet the needs of the service.
Key Responsibilities
One-to-One Support
- To provide specialist tailored and survivor-led trauma-stabilisation support to adults who are or have experienced DASV.
- Provide targeted one-to-one support for individuals who require additional or interim support alongside core service delivery.
- Support service users through key transition points, including waiting periods, movement between services, and completion of programmes.
- Provide on-going support, advice and information to service users on their rights and options around housing, legal support, criminal justice process etc.
- Manage and prioritise an individual caseload, ensuring timely contact, engagement, and planned progression through support pathways.
- Deliver trauma-informed, person-centred support to adult survivors of sexual violence, tailored to individual needs and recovery goals.
- Undertake comprehensive assessments and develop, implement, and review individual support plans.
- Provide trauma stabilisation interventions through both one-to-one and group-based delivery.
- Deliver psychoeducation, emotional regulation, and grounding techniques to support recovery.
- Offer practical and emotional support including advocacy, signposting, and engagement activities.
- Risk manage cases experiencing current, non-high risk DASV. This will include risk assessment, safety plan, risk review, safeguarding, and onward referrals where necessary to relevant agencies such as IDVA / MARAC / MASH.
- Continuously assess and respond to risk, adapting support approaches to promote safety and stability.
ITRS Training
- Deliver ITRS training to GP practice staff, including how GPs can make confident clinical enquiries with patients about their experience of DASV.
- Be the named practitioner to a specific number of GP Surgeries, acting as the Single Point Of Contact for GP staff on DASV enquiries / concerns.
- Develop a good relationship with staff within your allocated GP surgeries, integrating as part of the practice team.
- Engage pro-actively with partner agencies, developing strong working relationships with them e.g. Social Care, Police, Community Mental Health.
Group Facilitation and Delivery
- Facilitate therapeutic recovery group sessions ‘Journey to Healing’.
- Plan and facilitate structured, evidence-based group programmes in line with trauma-informed practice.
- Create safe, inclusive environments that promote empowerment, connection, and recovery.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of group content and delivery methods.
Collaboration, Partnership and Multi-Agency Working
- Produce and maintain a high standard of accurate records on the case management system for all service users within your caseload.
- Contribute to monitoring and evaluation of the ITRS by collecting required data and producing written reports as requested.
- Work closely with your team members and colleagues across the organisation, reflecting ideas and best-practice.
- Work collaboratively within a multi-agency partnership to coordinate support and share best practice.
- Attend and contribute to multi-partner allocation and review meetings.
- Coordinate with external services to meet additional or complex needs through appropriate referrals and joint working.
