Summary
The Governing Body of Altham St. James C of E Primary School is seeking to appoint an excellent, experienced classroom practitioner with high expectations, to take up a teaching assistant position at our school in the reception class.
Altham St. James Church of England Primary School is a popular village school with a strong family ethos. From September 2026, we will have 91 pupils on roll and are continuing to grow, having recently increased our Published Admission Number (PAN) to 15.
From November 2026, we will be opening a purpose-built nursery extension to the Reception classroom, creating a unified EYFS unit of up to 30 children, comprising 15 nursery (34) and 15 Reception (45) pupils.
We are a warm, caring and welcoming Christian school where children are at the heart of everything we do. We had a successful Ofsted inspection in March 2026 and continue to go from strength to strength.

This position is part time, term time only, please note the salary quoted is full time equivalent. If successful, the salary received will be paid on a pro rata basis.

Essential Qualifications
- Recognised Level 2 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Early Years Education and Care, or an equivalent qualification.
GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or above (or equivalent).

Desirable Qualifications
- Level 3 Early Years qualification.
Paediatric First Aid qualification.

Essential Experience
- Experience of working with children in an EYFS or childcare setting.
- Ability to support children's learning through play and practical activities.
- Experience of supporting the delivery of high-quality phonics teaching and early reading activities, including leading small-group interventions to help children make progress in literacy.
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting children with SEND.
Knowledge of speech and language development strategies.
