On behalf of ONS, we are looking for X2 Digital Product Managers (Inside IR35) for a 6 month contract. This is a hybrid working role (two days per week office based - Newport or Titchfield with additional travel to either site).
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest producer of official statistics, covering a range of key economic, social and demographic topics. These include measuring changes in the value of the UK economy, estimating the size, geographic distribution and characteristics of the population, and providing indicators of price inflation, employment, earnings, crime and migration.
Job Purpose:
The Statistical Business Register (SBR) is replacing a legacy system. It will hold data associated with the UKs businesses (The Register) which will be used in a variety of ways across different systems. The Register will be made up of a number of different digital products that will be used by ONS business. Digital Services are currently restructuring and setting up of delivery teams to align with these products. These roles will sit within a product team as the Digital Product Manager.
SC Clearance is an essential requirement for this role, as a minimum you must be eligible and willing to undergo these checks. Please note, due to the exceptional requirements of this position (short-term nature of this role and speed at which we require a postholder in situ) preference may be given to candidates who meet all of the essential criteria and hold active security clearance.
As a Digital Project Manager, your main responsibilities will be to:
- Have expert product management skills, managing a product through discovery, alpha, beta and live states.
- Potentially be involved in elements of programme/platform management activity, e.g., contribute to and/or maintain high level road maps.
- Work closely with the Lead SBR Product Manager to provide leadership and direction.
- Define and own the vision and scope for their product and engage their teams and stakeholders in the development of that vision over time.
- Be a key contact for Stakeholders - keeping people informed.
- Work in the open and model transparency through things like show and tells.
- Champion their users; reviewing research, feedback, data and insights to inform continuous improvement and decide priorities for user research and business analysis on their products.
- Own the backlog and lead definition, priority, and refinement of stories to ensure they are of sufficient quality to easily pass through research design and development (with support from business analysts where appropriate).
- Ensure that a successful and sustainable balance of investigation & research, new features and continuous improvement is prioritised for each iteration.
- Sign off stories as "done" and be responsible for the quality of their product, ensuring the Government Service Standard is achieved for relevant product and quality related points.
Essential:
- Experienced Digital Product Manager with demonstratable examples
- Excellent Stakeholder management skills
Desirable:
- GDS knowledge
- Public sector experience
