About Trade Mastermind
Trade Mastermind is a fast-growing business education, coaching and development organisation dedicated to helping ambitious business owners build stronger, more profitable and sustainable companies.
Originally established with a strong presence in the trades sector, Trade Mastermind has evolved beyond its roots and now supports entrepreneurs and business owners across a broader range of industries.
Through expert coaching, practical training, live events, strategic programmes and a highly engaged business community, we equip our clients with the knowledge, systems, accountability and commercial insight they need to overcome growth challenges and achieve their ambitions.
As Trade Mastermind enters its next phase of growth and expansion, we are strengthening our senior leadership team and are looking for an exceptional Commercial Finance Director to help shape and deliver our long-term strategy.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a commercially focused and strategically minded Commercial Finance Director to join our senior leadership team.
Reporting to and working closely with the CEO, the Finance Director will take ownership of the financial strategy and performance of the business, ensuring that our continued growth is supported by robust financial planning, strong commercial insight, effective controls and high-quality decision-making.
This is not simply a reporting and compliance role.
We are looking for a Finance Director who can operate as a genuine commercial partner to the CEO and wider leadership team – someone who understands the numbers, but more importantly can translate them into insight, challenge and action.
You will play a central role in improving profitability, strengthening forecasting and financial visibility, evaluating investment opportunities and ensuring the business has the financial infrastructure required to scale successfully.
Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Strategy & Leadership
- Develop and lead the financial strategy in support of Trade Mastermind's wider business objectives.
- Act as a trusted strategic and commercial adviser to the CEO and senior leadership team.
- Provide clear financial insight to support key strategic, operational and investment decisions.
- Challenge assumptions and ensure major business decisions are supported by robust financial analysis.
- Contribute actively to the overall strategy, direction and performance of the business.
Financial Planning & Performance
- Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes.
- Develop rolling forecasts and scenario models to support effective decision-making.
- Maintain strong oversight of cash flow, working capital and liquidity.
- Identify financial risks, opportunities and emerging performance trends.
- Establish appropriate financial KPIs and provide clear visibility of performance against plan.
- Work with senior leaders to improve departmental accountability, commercial performance and cost management.
Management Information & Commercial Insight
- Ensure timely and accurate production of monthly management accounts and board-level financial reporting.
- Develop management information that provides meaningful insight rather than simply reporting historical results.
- Analyse revenue, margins, costs, customer economics and other key commercial drivers.
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency and return on investment.
- Build financial models to support new products, markets, investments and growth initiatives.
- Translate complex financial information into clear, actionable recommendations for non-financial stakeholders.
Governance, Controls & Compliance
- Ensure the business maintains appropriate financial controls, policies and governance as it grows.
- Oversee statutory reporting, tax, audit and regulatory requirements.
- Manage relationships with auditors, banks, advisers and other relevant external partners.
- Ensure financial risks are appropriately identified, monitored and managed.
- Maintain high standards of financial accuracy, integrity and accountability throughout the organisation.
Growth & Investment
- Provide financial leadership for strategic growth initiatives.
- Assess the commercial viability and financial impact of new opportunities.
- Support investment decisions through modelling, scenario planning and commercial due diligence.
- Where appropriate, support acquisitions, partnerships, funding or other corporate development opportunities.
- Ensure financial systems, processes and resources are capable of supporting the future scale of the organisation.
Finance Team Leadership
- Lead, develop and strengthen the finance function as the organisation grows.
- Establish clear standards, responsibilities and performance expectations across the team.
- Develop efficient, scalable financial processes and reporting systems.
- Identify opportunities to use technology, automation and improved data to increase the effectiveness of the finance function.
- Build a high-performing finance team capable of supporting an ambitious, growing organisation.
About You
You will be an experienced senior finance leader who combines strong technical capability with commercial judgement and a genuine understanding of how businesses grow.
You will be comfortable moving between high-level strategy and detailed financial analysis and will thrive in an entrepreneurial environment where priorities can move quickly.
You will have the confidence to challenge constructively, influence senior stakeholders and provide the CEO and leadership team with clear, evidence-based recommendations.
Essential Experience & Qualifications
- Qualified accountant – ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent.
- Significant experience in a Finance Director, Head of Finance, Financial Controller or comparable senior finance leadership position.
- Strong commercial and strategic financial capability.
- Demonstrable experience of budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and management reporting.
- Strong financial modelling and analytical skills.
- Experience developing meaningful management information and KPIs.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to translate financial data into practical commercial recommendations.
- Experience developing financial controls, processes and governance within a growing organisation.
- Strong leadership capability with experience developing finance teams and/or functions.
Desirable
- Experience working within a high-growth, entrepreneurial or SME environment.
- Experience within education, coaching, training, membership, professional services or other service-led businesses.
- Experience supporting a business through a significant period of growth or transformation.
- Exposure to acquisitions, investment appraisal, fundraising or corporate development.
- Experience improving or implementing finance systems, reporting platforms and automation.
- Experience working with recurring revenue, subscription or membership-based business models.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Commercially minded – understands how financial decisions translate into business performance.
- Strategic – able to look beyond today's numbers and help shape where the organisation goes next.

- Influential – confident challenging and supporting senior stakeholders.
- Accountable – takes ownership and maintains exceptionally high standards.
- Pragmatic – able to balance financial discipline with the realities of a fast-growing entrepreneurial business.

What We Offer
- Competitive executive-level salary package.
- Performance-related bonus.
- Flexible and hybrid working.
- Professional development and continued learning opportunities.
- A collaborative, ambitious and entrepreneurial working environment.
- The opportunity to work closely with the CEO and senior leadership team.
- Significant influence over the financial strategy and future direction of the organisation.
- The opportunity to help shape the next stage of growth for Trade Mastermind.
