Temporary School Caretaker (Temp to Permanent)

About the Role
We are currently recruiting for an experienced and reliable School Caretaker to join a welcoming education setting in Sunderland. This is a full-time, temp-to-permanent opportunity, offering the chance to secure a permanent position for the right candidate.
The successful applicant will be responsible for ensuring the school site is safe, secure, clean, and well maintained, helping to provide an excellent environment for pupils, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
- Opening and securing the school site each day
- Carrying out general maintenance, repairs, and basic DIY tasks
- Maintaining the cleanliness and presentation of the school grounds and buildings
- Performing routine health and safety inspections
- Monitoring site security and supervising contractors when required
- Preparing classrooms and communal areas for school activities and events
- Supporting fire safety procedures and emergency evacuations
- Monitoring heating, lighting, and other site services
- Assisting with deliveries, furniture moves, and general site duties
- Keeping maintenance records and reporting any issues promptly
About You
- Previous experience as a School Caretaker, Site Supervisor, Facilities Assistant, Maintenance Operative, or in a similar role
- Confident carrying out general maintenance and basic repairs
- Good understanding of health and safety procedures
- Able to work independently and manage a varied workload
- Reliable, professional, and well organised
- Strong communication skills and a proactive approach
Essential Requirements
- Enhanced DBS Certificate is essential
- Previous experience working within a school or similar environment is highly desirable
- Available to start immediately
