PACE & NVR Night Support Worker – Job Description – Children’s Home

Reports To: Registered Manager / Deputy Manager / Team Leader
Hourly Rate: £15.00 - £15.50 (NVQ Level 3)
Hours: 40Hrs (21:00hrs – 07:00hrs)
Shift Pattern: 3 week rolling rota (including weekends)
Job Role:
To provide high-quality overnight care, safeguarding and therapeutic support to children and young people within the home using the principles of PACE and Nonviolent Resistance (NVR).
The Night Support Worker will help maintain a safe, calm and nurturing environment throughout the night, supporting emotional regulation, reducing anxiety and responding therapeutically to children who may struggle with trauma, attachment difficulties, emotional distress, sleep disruption or behavioural needs.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
Overnight Care & Support
· Maintain the safety, wellbeing and security of all children and young people during night hours.
· Carry out welfare checks in line with individual care plans and risk assessments.
· Support children who wake during the night due to anxiety, nightmares, emotional distress or dysregulation.
· Provide calm, reassuring and emotionally attuned support.
· Promote a quiet, nurturing and predictable nighttime environment.
· Support bedtime and morning routines as applicable.
Person Specification:
Essential
· Enhanced DBS check required
· Flexibility to work waking nights, weekends and bank holidays.
· Full UK driving Licence
· Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable individuals.
· Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
· Ability to remain calm and emotionally regulated under pressure.
· Good written and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to work independently during night shifts.
· Willingness to complete training in PACE, NVR and trauma-informed practice.
Desirable
· NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or willingness to complete).
· Experience supporting children with complex emotional or behavioural needs.
· Knowledge of trauma, attachment and emotional regulation.
· Understanding of neurodiversity and mental health needs.
Pay: £15.00-£15.50 per hour
