Job Title: 2:1 SEN Tutor / Support Mentor – Alternative Provision
Location: Lichfield, WS13 area
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 9:30am-11:30am - Friday - 1pm-3pm
Job Type: Part-time, weekday mornings
Role Type: 2:1 support — two tutors supporting one child
Job Overview
We are looking for two patient, active and reliable tutors/support mentors to work with a Year 3 child in the Lichfield WS13 area.
This is a highly personalised alternative provision role. The child has a strong love for football, so the majority of each session will involve football-based activities at a local park, outdoor space or suitable concrete area where he can play safely and freely.
Short bursts of education will be integrated into the session, usually around 10–20 minutes at a time, depending on the child’s engagement.
Session Structure
Each 2-hour session may include:
- Football-based activity and movement breaks
- Building trust, routine and positive rapport
- Short English and Maths tasks
- Basic number work: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
- Simple handwriting and sentence work
- Calm transitions between football and learning
- De-escalation and regulation support where needed
About the Child
The child is currently in Year 3 and requires a calm, consistent and trauma-informed approach. He may present with challenging or violent behaviours at times, so tutors must be confident using de-escalation strategies, maintaining boundaries and keeping sessions safe.
This role is not a traditional classroom-style tutoring role. The main focus is engagement, trust-building, physical activity, emotional regulation and slowly introducing learning in manageable blocks.
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who is:
- Patient, calm and reliable
- Confident working with children with challenging behaviour
- Comfortable supporting outdoor football-based sessions
- Able to build rapport through sport and positive interaction
- Able to deliver basic English and Maths support
- Confident using de-escalation techniques
- Available Monday to Friday, 9am–11am
- Able to start ASAP, ideally from 20th April
