North Devon Council’s Property Team is looking for a reliable, experienced general maintenance person to provide efficient, practical maintenance and facilities support across the Council’s residential and commercial properties, land and engineering assets, ensuring buildings and land are safe, compliant, and well maintained, while delivering a high-quality service to tenants, residents, and stakeholders.
Your responsibilities will include:

Carry out a range of general maintenance and minor repair tasks, including decorating, basic plumbing, carpentry, furniture assembly, tiling and small external works
- Undertake routine property and land inspections, safety checks and minor defect repairs, maintaining accurate records and escalating specialist issues where required
- Support the safe and effective operation of residential and commercial buildings and land, including facilities tasks, office moves, signage, access arrangements and minor surface repairs
- Monitor and supplement contractor-delivered services such as cleaning and grounds maintenance, ensuring agreed standards are met
- Provide site access and on-site support for contractors, tenants, residents and colleagues in a professional and helpful manner
- Remove and arrange disposal of waste or items left in properties, ensuring safe handling and compliance with procedures
- Maintain tools, ladders, equipment and personal protective equipment in a safe working condition
- Use IT systems to record work activity, retrieve information, update records and support service delivery
Ideally you should have:

Experience of carrying out general maintenance, repairs or handyman duties, ideally within a property, housing, construction or facilities environment
- Good understanding of safe working practices, including manual handling, working at height and the safe use of tools and equipment
- Ability to inspect properties, identify defects, prioritise work and complete minor repairs to a good standard
- Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload and respond flexibly to changing priorities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work professionally with tenants, residents, contractors and colleagues
- Ability to work independently using initiative, while also contributing positively as part of a team
- Basic IT skills, including the ability to input, retrieve and maintain accurate records using work management systems
- Full UK driving licence
