Mechanical Maintenance Technician

Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Shift Technician to join a multi-skilled engineering team within a well-established manufacturing environment. This is a Monday–Friday day/afternoon shift role, involving planned maintenance, breakdown support, project work, and participation in an engineering call-out rota.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide mechanical maintenance support to production operations
- React promptly to breakdowns to minimise downtime
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) activities
- Support installation, improvement, and development projects
- Prioritise workload in line with production requirements
- Work closely with production teams to improve equipment availability and performance
- Ensure all work is completed safely and in line with Health & Safety standards
- Participate as a member of the multi-skilled Engineering team, working with other departments to improve performance and achieve objectives.
- Setting priorities from shift production teams’ guidance.
- Breakdown maintenance.
- Significant involvement in project, development and installation work.
- Safe working of all plant and equipment within Health & Safety requirements
- Reacting effectively to minimize machine downtime, while executing planned preventative maintenance activities to increase machine availability and performance.
Experience
- Time-served mechanical apprentice
- Minimum ONC or equivalent qualification
- Previous experience in a mechanical maintenance / shift technician role
- Experience maintaining production or process equipment
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Self-motivated with good time-management and organisational skills
- Good communication skills and strong work ethic
Experience with the following is desirable, but not essential as in house training will be provided:
- Screw conveyor/Belt conveyor maintenance
- Hydraulic/pneumatic systems
- Rolling Mills
- Gas Burner Systems
- Overhead Crane Systems
- Steam systems
- Pump and Gearbox knowledge
- General fault finding & diagnostics skills
Training:
- Training and competency plan
- In house training on Pumps/gearbox/hydraulics/pneumatics
- Fork Lift Truck
- MEWP
- Overhead Crane
Role: Permanent
Salary: £45,000
Shifts: Days & Afternoons – 6am-2pm / 2pm-10pm (Alternate) – Days every 6 weeks (7am-3pm)
