We have an excellent career opportunity for the role of Kitchen Assistant to join our team here at Kirklands Care based at our wonderful St George's Care Home in Millom, Cumbria.
Our Kitchen Assistants help prepare nutritious meals, maintain hygiene standards, and support the overall dining experience for residents.

St George’s care home provides residential care for up to 36 people (male and female) of mixed physical and cognitive ability, we feel age should be no barrier to quality of life, and we are looking for dedicated, caring team members who strive to make every day as fulfilling as possible for residents, whether that’s through quiet company or social activities with other residents whilst focusing on encouraging residents to remain as independent as they can, focusing on both their physical and emotional needs.

Responsibilities
- Help to prepare, cook, and serve meals that meet the dietary needs of residents.
- Adhering to health and safety regulations, and maintaining high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in the kitchen to ensure a safe food preparation environment.
- Collaborating with residents, care staff and kitchen staff to ensure that individual dietary requirements are met, adjusting meal plans based on residents' health conditions and preferences.
- Assisting in creating a pleasant dining atmosphere for residents, which includes setting up dining areas, serving meals.
- Participating in the rotation of stock and managing inventory under the direction of the head cook or kitchen manager. This includes monitoring food supplies and reporting any shortages.
- Continuous professional development to enhance skills and knowledge in food preparation and care.

Our ideal candidates
- Experience in working in a kitchen environment would be preferred but not essential as full training would be given.
- Qualifications in food hygiene would be preferred but not essential
- Good interpersonal skills and a caring nature
- Good communication and listen skills
- Good work ethic
- Be able to work on your own but also as part of a team
- Be able to work effectively with colleagues and Line Managers
- Ability to understand and follow policies and procedures
- Willingness to support home in covering extra shifts when needed
- Hardworking and motivated
- Reliable
