Our waking night post pays £31,500, the same as our daytime residential support workers, with a £2,800 joining bonus on top across your first year, paid as £700 every quarter. It is a permanent, salaried post at a small therapeutic children's home near Faversham, owner led rather than part of a chain, and open two years, with a handful of young people living in it. We cannot offer visa sponsorship, so you will need the existing right to work in the UK.
When a young person wakes up distressed, the point of you being awake is that somebody is there.
The work
Welfare checks through the night, keeping the house calm and secure, nightly logs and any incident reports, and a proper handover to the day team in the morning so nothing gets lost between shifts.
How we work
The model is therapeutic, so the job is thinking about what is driving a behaviour rather than managing it physically. We de-escalate verbally and by distraction. Physical intervention is a last resort here and it is not the day-to-day of the job, and the framework we train in is PRICE.
What we are looking for
Experience in a residential children's home. We care more about how you think about behaviour than the exact number of months, so if you are a little short on paper and you know the work, apply anyway. What we are not looking for is domiciliary or elderly care, because the young people here can be dysregulated and people who have done this before are not thrown by that.
A calm, child-centred approach, and the sort of person who stays steady at three in the morning.
How it runs

The interview and a supervised couple of hours at the home happen on the same day, so the team and the young people meet you and you see the place properly. Bring your ID with you. If we offer you the job, the offer letter and the checks start straight away.
