The Role
Helia Photonics is looking for a careful, practical and dependable Photonics Process Technician to join our Production Team.
This is a hands-on role supporting the high-precision processing of semiconductor wafers, laser bars and photonic components. You will carry out a variety of specialist manufacturing processes, working in accordance with established procedures, product specifications, quality standards and health and safety requirements.
The successful candidate will be comfortable handling delicate, high-value components and carrying out detailed, repeatable work where accuracy and attention to detail are essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Wafer lapping and polishing
- Facet polishing of photonic and semiconductor components
- Precision sawing and component separation
- Visual and microscopic inspection
- Bar testing and recording test results
- Carrying out in-process and final quality-control checks
- Accurately completing production records and maintaining product traceability
- Identifying and reporting defects, process deviations and non-conforming material
- Following written production procedures and technical specifications
- Carrying out routine equipment checks and maintaining a clean, organised working area
- Following all relevant health and safety, PPE and cleanroom procedures
- Supporting production troubleshooting and continuous-improvement activities
- Undertaking other reasonable production-related duties as required
Essential Skills and Experience
- Ability to follow written production procedures accurately and consistently
- Ability to work to precise specifications and tolerances
- Excellent attention to detail
- A careful and methodical approach to practical work
- Ability to maintain accurate production and quality records
- Good basic numerical and computer skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
- Good communication skills
- Reliability and a strong sense of responsibility for the quality of completed work
- Willingness to learn new processes and develop specialist technical skills
Desirable Experience
Experience in one or more of the following areas would be advantageous, although not essential:
- Photonics, semiconductor or microelectronics processing
- Precision manufacturing or optical component production
- Wafer lapping, polishing, sawing or inspection
- Working with microscopes or precision measurement equipment
- Cleanroom or controlled-environment working
- Manufacturing within an ISO 9001 quality-management system
- A relevant technical, engineering, science or manufacturing qualification

Pay: £26,500.00-£28,000.00 per year
