We’re looking for a Prep Assistant to join our team at OATIS Queensway, supporting the central kitchen with high-quality, consistent prep across our core menu and catering offering.
This is a varied and largely self-managed role, ideal for someone who is self-sufficient, organised, has strong attention to detail, and takes pride in working efficiently while maintaining high standards.
Your day will involve a mixture of early-morning catering preparation, kitchen support and afternoon production prep, so we’re looking for someone comfortable moving between different responsibilities and managing their workload independently.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and organise early-morning breakfast and catering orders, ensuring everything is completed accurately and ready on time
- Once morning orders are complete, support the kitchen as a Kitchen Porter, including washing up, cleaning, organisation and helping the kitchen team during service
- Move into production and batch prep in the afternoon, preparing products for Queensway and our other OATIS sites
- Prepare key menu items including banana pudding, overnight oats, chia puddings and other core products
- Follow recipes accurately to ensure consistency, portion control and quality across all products
- Confidently scale recipes and calculate quantities based on orders, including doubling, tripling and producing larger bulk batches
- Be comfortable with basic maths and multiplication to calculate ingredients and quantities accurately when preparing multiple portions or catering orders
- Support catering orders and events, including basic cooking and food preparation
- Work through a structured prep list set by the manager while managing your own time and priorities independently
- Manage catering stock and maintain an overview of the upcoming week's orders to ensure the correct quantities are available and prepared
- Adapt prep quantities based on weekly schedules, catering volumes, events and changing business needs
- Maintain a clean and organised workspace, cleaning as you go
- Ensure all food is prepared, stored, rotated and labelled correctly in line with food safety standards
What We’re Looking For
- Previous kitchen, catering or food prep experience preferred
- Strong understanding of food hygiene and food safety practices
- Comfortable working independently and taking ownership of your workload
- Confident with basic maths, quantities and scaling recipes for bulk production
- Able to work accurately while maintaining a good pace
- Efficient, organised and detail-oriented
- Quick learner who can confidently follow recipes, systems and processes
- Happy to take on a range of responsibilities depending on what the kitchen and business need that day
- Positive attitude and willingness to support the wider team when needed
- Ability to be on site from 5:00am
This is a great role for someone who enjoys working behind the scenes, likes having ownership of their day and is comfortable balancing catering, kitchen support and production prep in a structured but fast-moving environment.
