About Function Fitness
After 13 years in the game, we've learned that an open-access gym isn't for everybody. We pride ourselves on providing a home for those who never felt like they belonged in a "normal gym" — people looking for connection, and to be coached toward their goals rather than go it alone.
All of our sessions are small and coach-led, built around a set of values we call FITA+ that shapes how we programme and how we talk to our members.
We're well known for our close-knit community and friendly team. Function Fitness is big on community. From summer sports days, to carnival entries, to Christmas parties, you’ll find us a fun, welcoming community of ‘let’s give it a go’.
At Function Fitness we invest in and respect our coaches. You are not here to just cover the front desk and clean machines while you build your own rota unpaid on the side. That's the industry norm, but it's not how we do things.
The Role
- 25 contracted hours a week, guaranteed — coaching and non-coaching work both fall within this, not on top of it.
- Employed role with full benefits, including holiday pay and pension contributions.
- Coaching our members across our group sessions and 1-2-1 work
- Client support — new member onboarding, goal review meetings, progress and body metric check-ins
What We Can Offer
- Regular team development, CPD and training so you're always best placed to support our members
- Room to build your own PT client base over time, with top-up pay on top of your guaranteed rate as you do
- A genuine long-term coaching career path if you want it — or full investment from us for as long as you're here, even if that's just a year
- Working directly alongside our senior coaches so you're learning on the job, not just left to sink or swim
What We're Looking For
Required
- Level 3 minimum
- Real experience on the gym floor — either coaching, or as a long-term functional fitness user yourself. This isn't a first job for someone with a qualification and no experience working with actual people
- Experience scaling or adapting programming for injuries or beginners
Desirable
- Someone who fits our culture, not just our schedule
- Empathetic people skills — able to meet members where they're at, free from judgement
- Coaches who want to build a real career in this industry
- Ideal experience for someone fresh out of university — we give the structure and mentorship most gyms don't
- A flare for social media
- Confident telephone manner
- Confidence assessing body metric data (e.g. InBody scans) to give members real insight
How to Apply
Your personality and getting to know you as a person is more important to us than your written CV - So we've tried to create an application process to reflect that.
Step 1. Send an application via email
- Introduce yourself — who you are, where you've come from. Not a CV, just a snapshot of you.
Step 2. We will reply and invite you to send us a 2-5 -minute video. In the video, tell us:
- Introduce yourself — who you are, where you've come from. Not a list like a CV, just a snapshot of you.
- Three things about gyms or the fitness industry that you disagree with
- Your vision for the fitness profession, in one sentence
Next Steps
If shortlisted, you will be invited to visit and coach a session at the gym on Wednesday 26th August or Wednesday 2nd September.
We'll send you the programming and attendee numbers ahead of time — you'll coach a session with our members, followed by a short 15-minute informal interview so we can get to know each other.
