About the Role:
Liverpool has a long-standing connection to global trade, and at PKT Mail Express Ltd, we bring that same spirit of reliability and efficiency to modern shipping operations. We manage time-sensitive deliveries and logistics services for business and ecommerce customers across the UK. We believe excellent shipping is about more than moving parcels; it is about creating a dependable operation that customers can trust. We are looking for a Director of Shipping Operations who can take ownership of our shipping strategy and operational performance. You will oversee a talented operations team, connecting transportation planning, carrier relationships, warehouse coordination, and customer delivery requirements. You will be the driving force behind operational reliability in a fast-moving logistics environment.
Why Work With Us?
The Environment: Our Liverpool operation is based close to the city centre and major transport links. We value a practical, collaborative workplace where teams can solve problems quickly and continuously improve the way we operate.
Operational Excellence: We are focused on building efficient and scalable shipping processes. You will have the authority to identify operational challenges, introduce improvements, and establish standards that support consistent service.
Modern Systems: Our teams use modern logistics, shipment tracking, inventory, reporting, and communication platforms. We rely on accurate operational data to make informed decisions and improve delivery performance.
Growth: You will have access to professional development opportunities, industry training, and logistics conferences to keep your knowledge current as the shipping and ecommerce sector continues to evolve.
Key Responsibilities:
Shipping Operations Ownership: Oversee daily shipping operations and ensure shipments are processed accurately, efficiently, and within established service targets.
Network Management: Coordinate shipping schedules, carrier performance, delivery routes, and operational capacity across the company's logistics network.
Team Leadership: Lead and develop shipping and logistics managers and operational staff. Establish clear performance expectations and support a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
Performance Management: Monitor delivery performance, shipping costs, service levels, and operational metrics. Identify trends and implement corrective actions where required.
Carrier Management: Build strong working relationships with courier, freight, and transportation partners. Review service performance, negotiate operational requirements, and address recurring issues.
Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve shipment processing, warehouse coordination, route planning, and customer delivery experience while maintaining operational quality.
Stakeholder Management: Work closely with commercial, customer service, warehouse, finance, and technology teams to ensure shipping operations support wider business objectives.
What We Are Looking For:
Experience: 8+ years of experience in shipping, logistics, transportation, fulfilment, or related operations, with significant experience managing teams and complex operational processes.
Leadership: Proven ability to lead managers and operational teams in a fast-paced logistics environment. You can establish priorities, make sound decisions, and maintain high service standards.
Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of UK shipping operations, carrier networks, transportation planning, fulfilment processes, and delivery performance management.
Analytical Skills: Comfortable working with operational data, KPIs, shipping costs, service-level metrics, and performance reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively with senior stakeholders, operational teams, suppliers, and external logistics partners.
Mindset: You are commercially aware, operationally focused, and pragmatic. You know when a process needs refinement, when an issue requires immediate action, and when the best approach is to build a scalable long-term solution.
Pay: £70,000.00-£91,600.00 per year
