Job Overview
We are looking for a practical and reliable person to join our growing engineering business in a varied workshop-based role.
The main responsibilities will include induction brazing carbide tips onto steel cutter bodies, followed by rough grinding the outside diameters and faces using a universal grinding machine.
The role will also involve preparing and cutting raw material for our CNC machines, making local deliveries and collections, and operating CNC machines when required.
This would suit someone with a practical engineering background who enjoys variety and is willing to support different areas of the business.
Main responsibilities
- Induction brazing carbide tips onto steel cutter bodies.
- Preparing cutter bodies and carbide tips before brazing.
- Operating a universal grinder to rough-grind outside diameters and faces.
- Cutting and preparing raw materials ready for CNC machining.
- Checking material sizes against drawings, job instructions and cutting lists.
- Delivering finished components to customers.
- Collecting materials, tooling and supplies from local suppliers.
- Loading and unloading materials safely.
- Operating CNC milling or turning machines when required.
- Carrying out basic inspection using measuring equipment such as verniers and micrometers.
- Completing route cards and other production paperwork accurately.
- Keeping machines and work areas clean, safe and organised.
- Helping with other workshop duties when required.
Skills and experience
Experience in some of the following areas would be useful:
- Induction brazing or another brazing process.
- Universal, cylindrical or surface grinding.
- Cutting and preparing engineering materials.
- CNC machine operation.
- Reading basic engineering drawings.
- Using measuring equipment.
- Working within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
Previous experience in every area is not essential, provided you have a practical mindset and are willing to learn.
Essential requirements
- A full UK driving licence.
- A reliable and responsible attitude.
- Good attention to detail.
- The ability to work safely and follow instructions.
- Willingness to carry out a varied role and help in different areas of the workshop.
- Comfortable handling materials and carrying out physical workshop duties.
- Able to work both independently and as part of a team.
