The Production Office Manager is responsible for leading the Production Office and ensuring the effective administration, coordination, and control of manufacturing information throughout the production process. The role is accountable for maintaining the integrity of StruMIS data, managing production documentation, supporting production planning activities, and providing accurate reporting to support operational decision-making.
Reporting to the Head of Engineering, the Production Office Manager oversees Production Controllers, Production Programmers, and Production Office personnel, ensuring manufacturing information, work packs, schedules, and documentation are accurate, current, and available to support production requirements.
Working closely with Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Projects, and Manufacturing, the role coordinates information flow between departments, maintains system and document control standards, and supports continuous improvement of Production Office processes.

Produce regular operational reports including Work in Progress (WIP), Production Status Reports, Labour Booking Reports, Outstanding Operations Reports, Contract Progress Reports, Material Status Reports, Dispatch Readiness Reports, Production Office KPI Reports, and StruMIS Performance Reports.
Health, Safety, Environment & Quality
Report and investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, hazards, and unsafe conditions as required.
Authorities, Interfaces & Reporting
Key interfaces: Manufacturing, Engineering, Projects, Procurement, Stores, Quality, Commercial, and Logistics Teams.
Responsible for: Production Office workload allocation, StruMIS data management and integrity, production documentation control, workflow coordination, production planning support, operational reporting, escalation of production administration risks and issues, and continuous improvement of Production Office processes.
Authority to: Allocate Production Office workloads, maintain StruMIS production data, issue-controlled production documentation, recommend process improvements, and escalate production administration issues.
No authority over: Factory labour allocation, production output, workshop productivity, or manufacturing performance. These responsibilities remain with the Manufacturing Manager.
Skills, Knowledge & Attributes
- Experience managing a Production Office within a steel fabrication, structural steelwork, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge and experience of StruMIS and production information management systems.
- Experience coordinating production documentation, work packs, drawing revisions, and manufacturing data.
- Experience producing management reports, KPIs, and operational performance information.
- Strong organisational and planning skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and workflow requirements simultaneously.
- Good communication and leadership skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making ability.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Competent in the use of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and ERP/MRP systems.
- Good understanding of structural steel fabrication and manufacturing processes.
- Understanding of document control, traceability requirements, and production administration processes.
- Knowledge of BS EN 1090, UKCA, and ISO 9001 quality management requirements.
- Continuous Improvement or Lean Manufacturing experience.
- Experience within structural steelwork, substations, transmission towers, or heavy fabrication environments.
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Business, Manufacturing, or Engineering (desirable).
- Management qualification (ILM/CMI) or equivalent (desirable).
