Job Overview
We are a small local charity looking for a friendly, reliable and experienced Part-Time Cook / Kitchen Assistant to help with our food preparation.
This is a varied, hands-on role. The work includes preparing, assembling and packing meals, as well as preparing food in larger quantities for communal meals and events.
You’ll be given clear guidance and recipes to follow, and I will often be working alongside you or available to help. However, much of the time you’ll be working independently, so we’re looking for someone who is efficient, organised and confident using their own initiative.
You don’t need to be a trained chef, but previous kitchen experience is essential. You should be comfortable following recipes, preparing food in quantity and getting through a good amount of work within the hours available.
We have a 5-star Food Hygiene Rating, so maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness and food safety is very important to us.
Duties
- Prepare and cook food following our recipes and instructions
- Prepare food in larger quantities for communal meals and events
- Assemble, portion and pack prepared meals
- Prepare ingredients, including chopping, weighing and measuring
- Work efficiently and independently to complete the day’s preparation
- Keep the kitchen clean, tidy and organised as you work
- Store and label food correctly
- Follow food hygiene and food safety procedures at all times
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience working in a kitchen or food preparation environment
- Able to work quickly and efficiently without compromising standards
- Comfortable working independently
- Good at following recipes and instructions
- Able to use initiative and see what needs doing
- Organised, reliable and punctual
- A good understanding of food hygiene and safe food handling

This would suit someone who enjoys cooking and food preparation but doesn’t necessarily want the pressure or hours of a restaurant kitchen. We’re looking for someone dependable who can come in, understand what needs to be done and get on with it.
