ROLE SUMMARY & PURPOSE
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Mentoring Youth Work Apprentice to join our dedicated team at a dynamic youth work charity in Gloucestershire.
This is an ideal opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and keen to develop their skills and experience in youth work while working towards a nationally recognised Level 3 Youth Work qualification.
Working alongside experienced youth workers, you will deliver a mentoring programme for young people aged 11–18 who have been identified as being at risk, including those experiencing missing episodes, online harms, exploitation or involvement with the criminal justice system.
Your primary objective will be to help young people achieve their personal goals, maintain positive wellbeing, develop healthy relationships and build positive support networks. You will do this by providing guidance, practical assistance and appropriate signposting across a range of areas affecting their lives.
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Undertake and successfully complete the Level 3 Youth Work Apprenticeship qualification as a requirement of the role.
- Hold a caseload of young people who have been identified as requiring support through mentoring.
- Develop positive and professional relationships with young people and provide effective one-to-one mentoring in line with Young Gloucestershire's lone-working policy.
- Develop confidence and competence in working with groups of young people.
- Undertake needs assessments with young people, develop appropriate action plans and provide ongoing support.
- Identify and address practical challenges affecting young people's wellbeing, including education, relationships and engagement in positive activities.
- Make appropriate referrals and signpost young people to internal and external services and support where required.
- Develop knowledge of relevant opportunities, community services and support networks that can benefit the development and progression of young people.
- Advocate for young people, ensuring their voices are heard and represented.
- Work across Gloucestershire with key partners and agencies, both within Young Gloucestershire's Hub provisions and through collaborative partnership working.
- Ensure new referrals are contacted and waiting-list check-ins are completed monthly in line with agreed processes.
- Carry out risk assessments where required and contribute to the effective management of risk.
- Work within agreed budgets and financial procedures.
- Maintain a professional, collaborative and team-focused approach to all aspects of the role.
- Undertake relevant training and development identified as necessary for the role.
GENERAL DUTIES
- Maintain a high-quality service for young people across Young Gloucestershire's provisions.
- Maintain accurate and timely records, reports and case notes, ensuring all required paperwork is completed, and Young Gloucestershire's data management systems are kept up to date.
- Take responsibility for the health, safety and welfare of young people, including complying with safeguarding procedures and responsibilities.
- Keep up to date with relevant current affairs, legislation, local developments and resources that may benefit young people and Young Gloucestershire's work.
- Complete all essential training and participate in ongoing learning and professional development.
- Work within Young Gloucestershire's policies, procedures and values, including its commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Promote a positive image of Young Gloucestershire in all interactions with young people, colleagues, partners and the wider community.
- Work collaboratively as part of the wider organisation and undertake other reasonable duties as required to support the achievement of Young Gloucestershire's strategic objectives.

KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Knowledge of, or experience in, youth work, mentoring, community work or a related setting.
- Experience of working with young people, particularly those who may be disadvantaged or experiencing challenges in their lives.
- Understanding of the issues and principles involved in working with disadvantaged young people.
- Ability to build positive relationships with young people and act as a positive role model.
- Ability to build effective relationships with key partners from voluntary, statutory and private sector organisations.
- Evidence of a commitment to personal and professional development.
- Basic IT skills, including experience of Microsoft Office programmes.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Essential
- Willingness to complete the Level 3 Youth Work qualification as part of the apprenticeship.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a youth work, community work or volunteering role.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade 4/C or above, or willingness to work towards these alongside the apprenticeship.
- A genuine interest in working with young people.
- Awareness of the challenges faced by young people in today's society.
- Experience of working effectively within a team environment.
- First Aid experience is desirable.
SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTS
Due to the nature of the role and the requirement for an enhanced DBS check, candidates must be aged 18 or over.
Candidates must also hold a full UK driving licence and have access to a vehicle that they can use for business purposes.
