The Major Trauma Support Partnership is dedicated to enhancing the recovery experience for patients at NHS Major Trauma Centres across England. Established in 2016, we collaborate with NHS Trusts, Citizens Advice, and various charities to provide essential support that alleviates stress for patients and eases the workload of frontline NHS staff.
Summary
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Brain Injury Patient Adviser to join our team at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW). In this part time role, you will provide vital support and advice to families of patients with traumatic and acquired brain injuries. Patients you support will be both adult and children. Your advice and support will help reassure next of kin about the future of their loved one, and how they can move forward through this difficult time. As part of the MTSP team you will be able provide a range of practical support services signpost to agencies, charities and community health services.
Working on site at UHCW for 2 days per week, you will form a part of a well established MTSP multidisciplinary team of advisers as well as NHS colleagues. Training can be provided to help improve your technical knowledge of brain injuries and their rehabilitation, but we can't teach you empathy, resilience and dedication.
Responsibilities
- Provide bedside education to family members as to the nature of the head injury, recovery pathway, and practical things they can do to support their loved one.
- Liaise with and signpost to third party organisations and charities who can assist the patient now and into the future.
- Working with our welfare benefits adviser, support patients and families to ensure they obtain the maximum financial support.
- Maintain contact with patients post discharge to ensure their ongoing needs are being met, either through statutory or third party services.
- Contact with schools may be required to help educate them and prepare the patients return to education.
Requirements
- Previous experience in supporting patients with brain injuries in either a care or rehabilitation setting.
- Strong understanding of patient care principles and practices.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team of clinicians and other stakeholders.
- Have a good clinical understanding of ABI, TBI injuries, their impact and rehabilitation.

Pay: £16,000.00-£18,000.00 per year
