Job Summary
We are seeking a practical, customer-focused team member to support the smooth daily running of a busy café.
Hours: 5 days a week, minimum of 1 weekend in 4 off. Normal hours between 8.30am and 5.00pm.
Role Summary:-
The Café Assistant supports the day-to-day running of the café by providing excellent customer service, preparing drinks and serving orders. They are responsible for maintaining high standards of cleanliness, following food hygiene, health and safety, and clearing tables in a timely manner. The role is hands-on and requires a friendly, reliable and flexible approach, helping to create a welcoming environment for customers while supporting the wider café team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide friendly, professional and efficient customer service, resolving customer queries or complaints calmly and appropriately.
- Serve food and beverages in line with menu specifications, presentation standards, while respecting allergen requirements.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and organisation across the café, kitchen, counter, seating and storage areas.
- Help monitor stock levels, receive deliveries, rotate stock correctly and report shortages or waste concerns to the Café Owner.
- Support seasonal promotions, menu changes, events or catering requirements as needed.
- Work positively with café team members during shifts, helping to complete tasks to a high standard.
Experience & Skills
Essential
- Previous experience in a café, hospitality, catering, retail or customer-facing food service environment.
- Strong customer service skills and a warm, approachable manner.
- Ability to work well as part of a small team and stay calm and organised during busy service periods.
- Good organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks and maintain standards under pressure.
- Understanding of food hygiene, health and safety, allergen awareness and safe working practices.
- Confident handling cash, card payments and basic daily records.
- Reliable, flexible and willing to work weekends, bank holidays or occasional evenings where required.
Desirable
- Food Hygiene Level 2 or equivalent qualification.
- Barista experience or confidence using commercial coffee equipment.
- Experience helping with stock rotation, deliveries, events or seasonal promotions.
- First aid, fire marshal or other relevant workplace training.

- Customers receive a consistently welcoming, efficient and high-quality café experience.
- The café is clean, well-stocked, safe and ready for service each day.
- Daily duties are completed reliably and procedures are followed consistently.
- Food and drink are prepared, displayed and served to agreed standards.
