Role Purpose
The Abrasive Coatings Operative is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient manufacture and coating of abrasive products in line with company quality standards, production schedules, and health & safety requirements. The role involves manual handling, coating operations, use of spray/painting equipment and bespoke machinery, inspection activities, and maintaining high housekeeping standards within the production environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out the preparation, handling, coating, and finishing of a wide range of customer products using specialist adhesive and abrasive coating systems.
- Apply coatings using various materials, including adhesives, resins, paints, and abrasive grits, ensuring all work is completed to the required quality standards.
- Operate coating equipment, spray guns, production machinery, and other specialist manufacturing equipment safely and efficiently.
- Safely move raw materials, work-in-progress products, and finished goods using Counterbalance Forklift Trucks, Stacker Trucks, and other approved handling equipment where authorised.
- Follow production schedules, work instructions, technical specifications, and standard operating procedures to ensure customer requirements are met.
- Read, understand, and accurately complete job cards, production records, and quality documentation, including recording labour times and production data.
- Conduct routine quality checks throughout the manufacturing process, reporting defects, non-conformances, or equipment issues to supervisors promptly.
- Work in accordance with the company's Quality Management System (QMS), maintaining high standards of workmanship and continuous improvement.
- Comply fully with all Health & Safety policies, Risk Assessments, COSHH regulations, and safe systems of work, including the mandatory use of PPE such as air-fed masks, gloves, eye protection, and respiratory equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment through good housekeeping practices and adherence to 5S principles where applicable.
- Support stock handling, material preparation, packing, dispatch activities, and general factory duties as required.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and supervisors to achieve production targets, quality standards, and customer delivery requirements.
- Demonstrate a flexible, reliable, and positive attitude, assisting in different areas of the business as production demands require.
Skills & Attributes
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, production, or factory environment preferred.
- Strong awareness of health and safety requirements.
- Ability to follow detailed work instructions accurately.
- Good attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Physically capable of carrying out manual handling duties.
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- Team player with a positive and proactive approach.
- Forklift Truck licence desirable but not essential, as training may be provided.
- Willingness to learn new skills and undertake further training.
