This includes MBS managing those services delivered by our BPO partners SSL and DXC. MBS also own the delivery of MPS recruitment covering Officer, volume Staff and non-volume Staff recruitment activity.
Job Purpose
The Staff Officer provides business critical day-to-day support to the DMBS – a member of the Business Services Senior Leadership Team. Working with the PA, you will form part of a small but influential team supporting the leadership of the Met at the highest level. The role is varied, interesting and demanding, and will give your insight and exposure to how the organisation is run and the handling of key risks and issues. Your support will be key to the ongoing success of the Directorate. You can expect to be running the DMBS inbox, supporting their day-to-day and week-to-week delivery, including joining them in meetings, driving forward business on their behalf and working to build the Directorate and contribute to the success of the wider Business Services group.
Acting on behalf of the DMBS, you will have brilliant organisational skills and the ability to juggle multiple priorities at once, as well as the ability to work with discretion and recognise sensitivity which comes with all private office roles. You will be confident at working with multiple stakeholders, including the Business Services Senior Leadership Team, Management Board members and the Office of the Commissioner.
You will also work closely with, and be supported by, the wider MPS Private Office team. The post holder will be expected to play an active part in the wider Private Office team, and to support the cross-cutting change work that is underway.
The role, like all private office jobs, comes with pressure and pace – bringing with it the opportunity to learn, develop and grow.
The post holder is expected to work from Kilburn at least 3 days per week (or another location in support of the DMBS) and is expected to be flexible to ensure that there is cover across the private office team supporting them. This will mean, at times, covering for the PA.
Key Role Responsibilities
Delivering first class support to the DMBS, through effective systems, processes and ways of working, and working with the PA to ensure excellent use of their time.
Ensuring the DMBS has all relevant briefings and governance papers, tracking things that have been asked for by the private office, and ensuring that these asks are delivered to time and to a high standard.
Prioritising the DMBS’s workload, ensuring that actions are followed up and deadlines are met.
Management and monitoring of the DMBS’s busy mailbox.
Collating and coordinating any materials the DMBS requires to undertake their role. Other ad hoc duties at the request of the DMBS.
Supporting the DMBS in ensuring the delivery of the DMBS’s large portfolio, in line with key priorities and MPS strategy (including delivery of NMfL2).
Administrative support, including minutes, action tracking and meeting read-outs, of key governance forums.
Acting as a conduit to communicate messages and priorities between the chief officer and the organisation.
Playing a full role in MPS Private Office, including cross-floor working and forums.
Promoting a culture of respect, inclusion and high standards, in line with the Met’s mission and values.
Benefits
You will enjoy the kind of great benefits that you’d expect from one of London's largest employers. These include:
Annual leave entitlement of 28 days plus bank holidays, rising to 33 days after 5 years of service
Civil service pension arrangements
Interest free season ticket loans
Membership of Met sports and social clubs
Flexible working conditions and many more.
