About DD Engineering Ltd
DD Engineering Ltd is a growing engineering company specialising in the design, manufacture and installation of mechanical equipment for the water and wastewater industry.
We design and manufacture bespoke equipment including rotating bridge scrapers, clarifiers and associated mechanical equipment for water treatment applications.
As our business continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team in Batley, West Yorkshire.
This is more than a traditional design role. We are looking for someone who enjoys engineering, problem solving and developing new ideas — someone who can look at an existing piece of equipment and ask "Is there a better way of doing this?"
The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be involved in the design and development of bespoke equipment used within the water and wastewater industry.
A major part of the role will be developing new ideas and improving existing products. You will have the opportunity to take an idea from an initial concept, develop the engineering behind it, create the 3D design and ultimately see it manufactured and installed in the field.
We are looking for someone who is naturally inquisitive and enjoys finding solutions to engineering problems. You will be encouraged to bring your own ideas to the table and have a genuine input into the development of our products and future designs.
You will work closely with our engineering and manufacturing teams, taking projects from initial concept through detailed design and manufacture.
Innovation & Product Development
Innovation is an important part of what we do.
We don't simply want someone who can produce drawings to an existing specification. We want an engineer who can think creatively, challenge conventional designs and develop practical new solutions.
You may be asked to:
· Develop a completely new mechanical concept from an initial idea.
· Improve the performance, reliability or manufacturability of existing equipment.
· Find simpler, more efficient or cost-effective ways of achieving a design requirement.
· Develop new products and equipment for the water industry.
· Investigate engineering problems and develop practical solutions.
· Produce prototypes, concepts and 3D models to test and develop new ideas.
· Work with the manufacturing team to turn new concepts into working equipment.
· Identify opportunities to improve our existing products and design processes.
Key Responsibilities
· Mechanical design of rotating bridge scrapers, clarifiers and other water industry equipment.
· Development of new products, concepts and engineering solutions.
· Producing detailed 3D models, assemblies and manufacturing drawings.
· Developing designs from customer requirements, specifications and site information.
· Selecting appropriate materials, components and mechanical systems.
· Reviewing and improving existing designs.
· Working closely with fabrication and manufacturing teams to ensure designs are practical and suitable for manufacture.
· Supporting technical documentation, calculations and equipment specifications.
· Liaising with customers, suppliers and subcontractors where required.
· Attending occasional site visits for surveys, inspections and technical support.
· Contributing ideas towards the continued development of DD Engineering's products and capabilities.
About You
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong practical understanding of engineering and fabrication.
More importantly, we are looking for someone who enjoys engineering.
You should be someone who naturally looks for ways to improve things, enjoys solving problems and is comfortable thinking outside the box. You don't necessarily need experience in the water industry — the ability to understand a problem and develop a practical engineering solution is more important.
Essential:
· Previous experience in a mechanical design engineering role.
· Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles and fabrication.
· Proven experience using a 3D CAD/design package.
· Ability to produce accurate engineering and manufacturing drawings.
· Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
· Strong problem-solving ability.
· Good attention to detail.
· Practical approach to engineering design.
· Ability to work independently and manage your own workload.
· Applicants must already have the right to work in the UK; we cannot offer visa sponsorship.
Desirable:
· Experience within the water or wastewater industry.
· Experience designing fabricated steelwork and mechanical equipment.
· Experience with rotating machinery, bearings, drives or similar mechanical systems.
· Experience with stainless steel and galvanised steel fabrication.
· HNC/HND/Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Site Visits
Occasional site visits will be required, including surveys, inspections and supporting projects during installation. All reasonable travel expenses will be covered by the company.
What We Offer
· Competitive salary based on experience.
· 25 days annual holiday.
· Company pension scheme.
· Training and development opportunities.
· Flexible working hours.
· Work from home / hybrid working available.
· Varied and interesting engineering projects.
· Opportunity to develop new products and bring your own ideas to life.
· A practical and friendly working environment.
· The opportunity to have a genuine influence on the direction and development of our products.
Why Join DD Engineering?
At DD Engineering, we believe good engineering comes from people who are willing to think differently.
You won't be joining a company where every design has already been decided, and your role is simply to produce the drawings.
We want you to question things, make suggestions, solve problems and invent better ways of doing things.
Whether that means improving an existing scraper, developing a completely new mechanism, finding a better manufacturing method or coming up with an idea for a product we haven't considered before, your input will be valued.
You will have the opportunity to take your ideas from concept → 3D design → manufacture → installation, and see the finished equipment working in the real world.
If you are an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys design, invention, problem solving and creating new things, we'd like to hear from you.
To apply, please submit your CV outlining your experience and why you think you would be a good fit for DD Engineering.
