Behaviour Mentor
Full-Time | Permanent | September Start
We are currently seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Mentor to join an Alternative Provision from September on a full-time, permanent basis.
The school provides a supportive and structured environment for young people who may have experienced challenges within mainstream education. The aim is to help students re-engage with education, manage barriers to learning and develop the skills, confidence and independence needed for adulthood.
The Role
As a Behaviour Mentor, you will work closely with students to support positive behaviour, engagement and personal development. You will build strong relationships with young people and provide consistent support to help them manage their behaviour and make positive choices.
You will:
- Provide one-to-one and small-group behaviour support.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with students.
- Support students to manage their emotions and behaviour.
- Help identify and address barriers to learning and engagement.
- Encourage positive behaviour, attendance and attitudes towards education.
- Use consistent and appropriate strategies to manage challenging behaviour.
- Support students during lessons, transitions and unstructured periods where required.
- Help students develop confidence, resilience and emotional regulation.
- Work closely with teachers and other staff to provide consistent support.
- Monitor behaviour and communicate concerns or changes in behaviour to the appropriate staff.
- Contribute to behaviour support plans and student progress.
- Help maintain a calm, safe and positive environment.
About You
The successful candidate will be calm, patient and resilient, with the confidence to support young people who may display challenging behaviour.
You will ideally have:
- Experience working with young people in an educational, care, youth work or support setting.
- Experience supporting students with challenging behaviour and/or SEN is desirable.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A calm and consistent approach to behaviour management.
- The ability to remain composed in challenging situations.
- A positive and non-judgemental attitude.
- The ability to set clear boundaries while maintaining positive relationships.
- A genuine commitment to helping young people make positive changes.
