Large Livestock Coordinator - Animal Experiences & Events
Location: Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm, Wiltshire (SP4)
Reports directly to: Sales & Events Manager & Operations Manager
Working pattern: Friday to Monday – 8 hours per day (32 hours per week), with flexibility required around animal routines and the events calendar.
Location & transport: We are incredibly lucky to be based in a beautiful rural setting, it’s a huge part of the experience we offer, however, it does mean there is no public transport to site. Applicants will therefore need their own reliable transport, can easily park in our large on-site free car park
About Us & The Job!
A brand new and exciting opportunity has opened up on our family-run business, Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm for a Large Livestock Coordinator, focusing on animal experiences (specifically aimed towards our larger livestock, such as: Highland cows & calves, alpacas, goats, ponies, donkeys etc) and animal focused-events, a genuinely special opportunity for the right person.
This is not just about looking after animals (although exceptional welfare and livestock management sit right at the heart of it). It’s about bringing our animals to life for visitors, making them feel interactive, hands-on and creating unforgettable new experiences and playing a key role in the future growth of the farm.
We are looking for someone who is equally at home:
- out in the fields in all weathers
- working confidently with large livestock
- chatting to visitors and delivering talks confidently
- motivating the team and building their confidence
- coming up with new, creative, bookable, income-generating ideas
You will take real ownership of this area, from the highest standards of husbandry through to how our animal experiences look, feel and evolve.
What the role involves
You will lead the welfare, health and daily management of our large livestock (alpacas, cattle, ponies, pigs, sheep, donkeys and goats) ensuring the best practice at all times and working alongside our established and experienced team, vets and external specialists where required. Breeding programmes, seasonal planning, compliance and record keeping will all sit within your remit.
Alongside this, you will be developing and delivering the animal experiences that make us a destination.
This will include:
- Daily animal talks, demonstrations and encounters
- Hands-on and bookable animal experiences and event days (building on our newly launched 'Highland Cow Days')
- Educational sessions for schools and groups
- Animal elements within corporate and private events
- Seasonal and themed animal-led event days
You’ll work closely with the events, marketing and commercial teams to make sure these are:
- engaging, hands-on and high quality
- welfare-led and safe
- visually well presented
- commercially successful
- welfare-led and safe
On busy days, you will be a visible, knowledgeable and approachable presence, someone visitors trust, the team look to for guidance and the animals remain calm around.
Just as importantly, you’ll help shape what comes next, identifying new opportunities for:
- animal-led revenue streams
- corporate and team-building experiences
- improved visitor engagement
- long-term development of the livestock area
Who we are looking for
This role would suit someone with significant hands-on experience with large farm animals and a real passion for high welfare standards, who also enjoys working with people and thinking creatively.
You’ll need to be:
- a confident and calm handler of large livestock
- an engaging communicator with the public
- organised, practical and solutions-focused
- proactive and full of ideas
- a natural team motivator
It would be a real advantage if you also have:
- experience in a visitor attraction, farm park, zoo or similar environment
- delivered talks, demonstrations or education sessions
- relevant animal, agriculture or countryside qualifications
- equine experience
