Casual Night Porter – Zero-Hours Contract

The Western Club is a historic private members’ club with eight guest bedrooms, located in the heart of Glasgow city centre.
We are looking for a reliable and professional Casual Night Porter to provide occasional overnight cover, including staff holidays, sickness and periods of increased demand.
This is a genuinely casual, zero-hours position. There are no guaranteed hours, and shifts will be offered according to the Club’s requirements and the successful candidate’s availability.
For candidates who are interested and available, supplementary daytime work as an Operational Assistant may also be offered by mutual agreement. This could include supporting room setups, events, front-of-house service and the general day-to-day operation of the Club.
Main responsibilities
- Providing a professional overnight presence within the Club
- Welcoming late-arriving members and bedroom guests
- Assisting guests with enquiries and reasonable requests
- Monitoring the security and safety of the building
- Carrying out regular checks of the premises
- Following the Club’s fire, security and emergency procedures
- Responding calmly and appropriately to any incidents arising overnight
- Answering the telephone and managing reception when required
- Completing an accurate handover for the daytime team
- Preparing reception and communal areas for the following day
- Assisting with light cleaning, breakfast service, room setup and other reasonable duties when required
Supplementary daytime work
Where mutually agreeable, additional casual daytime Operational Assistant shifts may be available. Duties may include:
- Setting up and clearing meeting, dining and event rooms
- Assisting with events and functions
- Providing front-of-house support
- Serving refreshments
- Assisting members, guests and visitors
- Supporting the Club’s team with general operational duties
Daytime work is optional and will be offered separately according to operational requirements and the candidate’s availability.

- Able to communicate clearly with members, guests and colleagues
- Attentive to security, safety and detail
- Flexible in responding to requests for holiday, sickness and short-notice cover
- Willing to assist with a practical and varied range of duties
Previous experience in a hotel, private members’ club, hospitality, security, reception or night-working role would be advantageous. Appropriate training in the Club’s procedures will be provided.
Availability
Applicants should be available for overnight work, including weekends and public holidays. Shifts may sometimes be offered at short notice, although availability will be discussed before each shift is agreed.
