Your main purpose is:
Support the Printer to achieve high quality flexible packaging using multiple processes, and meeting customer specifications following strict quality procedures
Key Responsibilities and Duties
· Safety must always be a prime consideration, and you are required to ensure that the safety of people, the environment and our products are never compromised
· You have a responsibility under the Health & Safety at Work etc Act 1974 to take reasonable care of yourself and other persons that may be affected by your acts or omissions at work, secure the health, safety, and welfare of your staff at work and protect, so far as is reasonably practicable, all others against risks to their health or safety arising from your work activities, those of their staff and ensure that your duties are discharged adequately. The responsibility to achieve the duty cannot be delegated. The tasks required to discharge them can be delegated; assistance and support can be obtained; but the responsibility remains with you
· Assist the Press Operator with mounting and aligning printing plates
· Assist with preparing and loading inks, solvents, and substrates (film, paper, foil) onto the press
· Perform ink viscosity checks and make basic adjustments under operator guidance
· Assist with setting up auxiliary equipment (e.g., anilox cleaner, distillation process, etc)
· Monitor press operation during production runs, alerting the operator to any obvious issues
· Maintain ink in tanks and doctor blade assemblies.
· Assist with roll changes and splicing of substrates
· Remove finished product from the press and prepare it for the next stage with proper banding
· Thoroughly clean press components (anilox rolls, plates, ink tanks, doctor blades, decks, impression cylinders) during job changeovers and at end of shift using approved solvents and methods.
· Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks as scheduled (lubrication, basic inspections) as per preventive plan schedule
· Maintain a clean and organized work area (press floor, ink mixing area) as per GMP and BRC requirement
· Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements (safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, etc.)
· Follow established quality control procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
· Accurately complete production logs, quality check sheets, and waste disposal and reports
· Report any safety hazards, equipment malfunctions, or quality concerns immediately to the Press Operator or Supervisor
· Assist with moving raw materials (rolls of substrate, inks, solvents) and finished goods using appropriate material handling equipment (pallet jacks, forklifts - if certified)
· Assist in maintaining inventory levels of consumables (inks, solvents, cleaning supplies, wipes) at the press
Person Specification
· Previous experience in a manufacturing, printing (especially flexo, gravure, or offset), or warehouse environment is preferred but not required.
· Good attention to detail with an ability to problem solve
· Able to work on own initiative with a resilient and positive attitude
· Must be able to work as part of a team
· Manage and deal with change in a fast moving and demanding environment whilst still maintaining standards set within the business
Contribute to the continuous improvement activity
Available for rotational shifts of 12 hours (day/night)
