An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and passionate Pub Manager to reopen and run one of Hull's iconic pubs.
The Rugby Tavern is a historic city centre pub with deep roots in Hull's proud rugby heritage. Filled with rugby memorabilia and long associated with the city's sporting culture, the pub has been closed for a while but is now ready for the right person to bring it back to life.
We're looking for someone who understands what makes a great local pub. Ideally, you'll have a genuine affection for Hull, appreciate the city's unique rugby traditions, and be excited by the opportunity to restore The Rugby Tavern as a welcoming destination for supporters, residents and visitors alike.
This is a hands-on management role where you'll lead from the front, delivering excellent customer service while maintaining the traditional values and standards for which Samuel Smith's Brewery is renowned.
Key Responsibilities
- Take full responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the pub.
- Re-establish The Rugby Tavern as a welcoming, well-run city centre pub.
- Deliver outstanding customer service and create a warm, friendly atmosphere.
- Lead, develop and motivate your team.
- Uphold the brewery's traditional values and operating standards.
- Promote and maintain the quality presentation of Samuel Smith's beers and ales.
- Manage stock control, cellar operations and basic financial administration.
- Build strong relationships with the local community and rugby supporters.
- Ensure the pub is maintained to a consistently high standard..
About You
- Has previous experience managing a pub or hospitality business.
- Is a confident leader with excellent customer service skills.
- Takes pride in running a clean, welcoming and successful pub.
- Has a genuine passion for traditional pubs and community hospitality.
- Ideally has an interest in Hull's rugby heritage and the city's sporting culture.
- Wants to play a key role in restoring a well-loved local landmark.
- Willingness to live on-site.
What's On Offer
- Salary £28,725 per person
- Rent free accommodation with utility bills paid by the brewery
- Can be an individual or a couple
- Training and ongoing support from our brewery in Tadcaster.
- 35 days annual holiday, including bank holidays.
