Job Summary
We are looking for a caring, resilient and experienced practitioner to provide dedicated one-to-one support for a child within our preschool room.
The child has some additional needs and requires a calm, patient and nurturing adult who can build a positive relationship whilst supporting his emotional regulation, safety, learning and social development.
This is a rewarding but challenging role. The successful candidate will need to remain calm under pressure, use positive behaviour support strategies and work closely with nursery staff, parents and external professionals to help the child access nursery safely and successfully.
Main Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated one-to-one support throughout the nursery day.
- Build a positive, trusting relationship with the child.
- Support emotional regulation and promote positive behaviour.
- Implement agreed behaviour support strategies and professional recommendations.
- Support the child's participation in activities, routines and learning opportunities.
- Encourage positive interactions with other children.
- Monitor, record and report progress, achievements and concerns.
- Complete observations, incident reports and support records as required.
- Work closely with the nursery SENCo, management team and external professionals.
- Attend review meetings where required.
- Maintain a safe environment for the child, other children and staff.
- Support personal care if required.
- Uphold safeguarding, health and safety and nursery policies at all times.
Person Specification
- Level 3 Early Years qualification preferred
- Experience working with children with additional needs.
- Understanding of behaviour that challenges.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during difficult situations.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good record keeping and observation skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare.
Desirable
- Experience working on a one-to-one basis.
- Training in positive behaviour support
- Experience working alongside Educational Psychologists and other professionals.
