About the Role
We are seeking a highly organised and detail-oriented Finance Controller to join our growing roofing business. This is a key management position responsible for overseeing the financial control of labour costs, material procurement, and operational spending across all projects.
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that every labour allocation and material order leaving the business is accurately tracked, authorised, costed, and reported, helping to maximise profitability and maintain financial discipline throughout the company.
Key Responsibilities
- Control and monitor all labour costs across roofing projects.
- Authorise, track, and reconcile material orders and supplier purchases.
- Ensure all labour and material expenditures are correctly allocated to projects.
- Produce accurate cost reports and profitability analysis for management.
- Manage purchase orders, invoices, supplier accounts, and payment schedules.
- Monitor budgets and identify cost overruns before they impact project margins.
- Work closely with project managers and directors to improve financial performance.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with company procedures.
- Prepare monthly management accounts and cash flow forecasts.
- Develop and improve financial controls and reporting systems.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience as a Finance Controller, Financial Manager, or Senior Accounts professional.
- Strong understanding of job costing, labour tracking, and material procurement.
- Experience within construction, roofing, building, or related trades is highly desirable.
- Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
- Value engineer/buying materials
- Strong knowledge of accounting software - Xero and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- High attention to detail and strong organisational skills.
