Who we are
At Mercury, we’re redefining how recruitment and staffing firms use technology. Our cloud-based SaaS platform, built on Microsoft Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform, helps businesses automate, scale, and perform at their best.
Founded in 2014, we’ve grown rapidly into a global organisation with teams across the UK, US, Australia and Japan. Our growth is powered by innovation and driven by people who care about doing great work. We believe in building technology that changes how the industry works and in creating an environment where talented people can do their best work every day.
What you’ll do
As an Assistant Accountant at Mercury, you’ll join a small, experienced Finance team in a hands-on, commercially focused role that blends day-to-day accounting activity with management accounting exposure.
This role is ideal for a part-qualified accountant who already has solid practical experience and is looking to build on that experience in a supportive environment - not just process transactions and move on.
You’ll take ownership of core finance activities, work closely with colleagues across the business, and develop a strong understanding of how a multinational SaaS business operates.
Here’s what you can expect to be involved in:
- Managing the sales ledger, including reviewing contract changes to ensure accurate monthly invoicing
- Issuing customer statements and resolving billing queries
- Raising credits and supporting customer account resolution
- Supporting credit control activities and chasing overdue invoices where required
- Completing daily bank reconciliations and postings
- Preparing and uploading month-end journals, including accruals and prepayments
- Assisting with the preparation and review of management accounts for multinational entities
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations
- Working closely with teams across the business to ensure an accurate view of the accounts
- Supporting improvements to finance processes, systems, and reporting
- Liaising with auditors and external parties as required
What we’re looking for
You’ll be a confident, capable finance professional who enjoys working as part of a team and isn’t afraid to take ownership. You’ll be comfortable balancing transactional responsibilities with broader accounting tasks and will bring a practical, common-sense approach to your work.
We’re looking for:
- Part-qualified accountant (AAT / CIMA / ACCA)
- 2–3+ years’ experience in a finance role, with exposure to both sales and purchase ledger activity
- A solid understanding of core accounting principles, including accruals, prepayments, and double-entry
- Experience with reconciliations and month-end processes
- Strong Excel skills (including pivot tables, SUMIFS, filters, and lookups)
- Good communication skills and confidence working with internal and external stakeholders
We actively support professional development and can offer study support for candidates who are committed to completing their accounting qualification. This includes a combination of study time and a contribution towards exams and learning costs. As a growing business, Mercury can offer longer-term progression through increased responsibility and exposure as you develop.
