Are you a recent graduate with a passion for housing, community development, and making a real difference? North Yorkshire Council (NYC) is looking for ambitious and driven individuals to join our Graduate Trainee Programme in Housing Strategy and Partnerships, Housing Allocations, Housing Estates and Income Services. These pivotal roles will place you at the forefront of the region’s housing initiatives, from affordable housing provision to sustainability goals.
What You’ll Do:
As a Graduate Trainee, you'll join one of our housing teams and gain hands-on experience working on projects and services that directly impact residents across North Yorkshire.
Depending on your role, you could work on:
Housing Strategy and Partnerships (hybrid working based at Northallerton, Selby or Scarborough)
- Help shape housing policies and strategies that impact thousands of lives.
- Support the delivery of affordable housing in partnership with developers and housing providers.
- Lead on bespoke projects, using your initiative to solve housing-related problems.
- Contribute to policy development and corporate projects across the Council.
Allocations (hybrid working based at Selby)
- Assess housing applications and support the allocation of social housing in line with policy and legislation.
- Work with housing providers and North Yorkshire Home Choice partners to deliver positive housing outcomes for customers.
- Analyse housing data, monitor performance, and contribute to service improvement initiatives.
- Assist with reviews, complaints, and complex enquiries, supporting fair and consistent decision-making.
Housing Estates & Income Services (hybrid working - Estates role based in Richmond and Income role based in Selby)
- Develop knowledge of housing legislation, tenancy policy, and social housing processes to support the delivery of an effective service.
- Analyse service data and contribute to performance monitoring, statutory returns, and continuous service improvement projects.
- Liaise with internal and external partner organisations to ensure accurate housing data, consistent practices, and positive housing outcomes for tenants across North Yorkshire.
- Assist with case management, income collection and debt recovery under the guidance of experienced officers.
- Support the investigation and preparation of responses to tenancy and income related enquiries and customer complaints ensuring responses are accurate, evidence-based, and compliant with legislation and policy.
