Growth Marketing Executive: Trials & Partner Acquisition
Company: Clear Books Reports to: CEO Location: UK (remote or hybrid) Type: Full-time, permanent. Early-career / graduate role.
Why this role exists
The biggest change to UK self-assessment in a generation is happening on a published timetable. Making Tax Digital for Income Tax mandates in waves by income threshold, and the April 2027 cohort (£30k+) is far larger than the first wave. Software decisions get made in the 6 to 12 months before mandation, which means the acquisition window is open now and closes in spring 2027.
We're unusually well-placed for it. We have a genuinely free MTD product, HMRC links to our pages directly, and there's a written plan already on the table. What we need is someone to run with it: to take the ideas, turn them into live campaigns, watch the numbers, and grow into owning the outcome.
This is a role for someone early in their career who wants to do a lot, fast. You'll work directly with the CEO, pick up ideas and make them real, and get exposure to the whole growth engine of a business (email, outbound, social, SEO, analytics) rather than one narrow slice of it. If you're ambitious, a self-starter, and want a role where your fingerprints are on everything, this is a brilliant place to build a career.
What you'll do
You'll help drive our two key numbers: new trials, and new accountant/partner sign-ups. You'll start by supporting and executing, and grow into owning more as you find your feet.
Email & lifecycle marketing (ActiveCampaign). You'll build and run our email programme: welcome and onboarding sequences, trial-to-paid nurture, re-engagement, and campaigns aimed at the cohorts that matter (sole traders, landlords, contractors, and the April 2027 wave). We'll teach you the platform if you haven't used it. What matters is that you're keen to learn it properly.
Cold outbound to partners (Instantly). The accountant-partner channel is a referral engine we've barely touched. You'll help build and run outbound campaigns to accountancy practices and bookkeepers: researching lists, drafting sequences that don't sound like spam, and learning the technical craft that makes cold email actually land in inboxes. It's a genuinely useful skill to own early in your career.
Watch the SEO & GEO numbers. You don't need to build technical SEO (that's handled separately), but you'll keep an eye on how we're doing: organic trial starts, rankings, and increasingly GEO, which is whether AI assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude recommend us when someone asks for MTD software. You'll learn to read GA4 and Search Console and flag when something moves.
Run our social channels. You'll own our day-to-day social presence: planning a simple content calendar, writing and scheduling posts, and building our voice on the platforms that matter for us (LinkedIn first, since that's where accountants and small-business owners are). A lot of this is repurposing what we already have, turning MTD guides and product updates into posts, and joining the conversations our audience is already having about the April 2027 changes. It's a great channel to own early because you see the results quickly and it's genuinely yours.
Keep the scoreboard. You'll help maintain one simple dashboard with the numbers that matter (trials, partner sign-ups, social engagement, and the early GEO signals) so the whole team can see what's working.
What we're looking for
We care far more about attitude and aptitude than a long CV. If you're missing some of the tools below but you're a fast learner who's excited by the problem, apply anyway.
Essential
- You pick things up fast and run with them. Give you an idea and a bit of direction, and you make it happen rather than waiting to be told each step. This is the single most important thing.
- You can write clearly. Both halves of this job, email nurture and partner outreach, are writing jobs. You don't need to be a copywriter yet, but you need a good ear for a sentence.
- You're comfortable with numbers and tools. You're the kind of person who'll happily get into GA4 or a new platform and figure it out. No fear of spreadsheets or dashboards.
- You're genuinely enthusiastic about this: a growing company, a real product, and a market that's about to change. We'd rather have energy and curiosity than polish.
- UK-based, and either already familiar with the UK small-business and tax world (MTD, accountants, self-assessment) or clearly able and keen to get up to speed fast.
Nice to have, but we'll teach the rest
- A placement, internship, or 1 to 2 years in a marketing, growth or sales role
- Any hands-on exposure to email tools (ActiveCampaign, Mailchimp, Klaviyo) or outbound tools (Instantly, Lemlist)
- Experience running social channels for a brand or project.
- Some familiarity with GA4, Search Console, or basic SEO
- Interest in AI tools. We use them heavily and will expect you to.
Not required
- A marketing degree
- Years of experience. This is a first or second role.
- Deep technical SEO. That's contracted out; you just keep an eye on it.
How we work with AI
We use AI heavily and we'll fund the tools and teach you to get the most from them. It makes it possible for one enthusiastic person to do what used to take a small team, which is exactly why this role can have such broad scope so early. We're not looking for someone to do work AI can do; we're looking for someone whose judgement and drive make the tools worth having.
Where this role can go
This is a growth role in every sense. Start by executing across email, outbound and analytics; grow into owning a channel, then the whole trials-and-partners number. In a company this size, there's no queue in front of you: the ceiling is however fast you can learn.
How to apply
No long essay. One short exercise:
We'll send you our free MTD landing page. You get an hour. Tell us one campaign or idea you'd try first, and why.
We're looking for how you think and how keen you are, not a polished plan.
