We are currently expanding our network of qualified British Sign Language (BSL) Interpreters and are seeking experienced freelance professionals to support our growing client base.
Role Overview
As a Freelance BSL Interpreter, you will facilitate effective communication between Deaf and hearing individuals in a variety of settings, including:
- Healthcare appointments
- Educational settings
- Business meetings
- Training sessions
- Community services
- Conferences and events
- Public sector and legal appointments
Assignments may be delivered face-to-face, remotely, or in hybrid environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide accurate and professional BSL interpretation services.
- Ensure effective communication between all parties.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional standards at all times.
- Prepare appropriately for assignments where relevant materials are provided.
- Submit assignment reports and invoices promptly.
- Travel to client locations when required.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
- Recognised BSL Interpreter qualification (Level 6 Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting or equivalent).
- Current registration with the NRCPD or an equivalent recognised professional body.
- Proven experience delivering BSL interpreting services.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong understanding of professional ethics and confidentiality requirements.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Qualifications
- Enhanced DBS Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
- Experience within healthcare, legal, education, local authority, or corporate sectors.
- Additional communication support qualifications.
Travel Requirements
- Must be willing to travel to assignments across the UK as required.
- Access to a reliable vehicle is preferred.
- Valid UK driving licence desirable.
- Flexibility to accept assignments at various locations and times.
