Job Purpose
Your responsibilities include driving vehicles and working with the crew to collect all waste and recycling as directed, providing a high-quality, cost-effective service on behalf of Cheshire West Recycling.
Principal Accountabilities
· To create a good working relationship with managers, supervisors, and other colleagues, working as part of a team and, if required, independently.
· To follow our Health & Safety procedures and existing regulations regarding, vehicles, sites, wearing of uniform and PPE as issued.
· To ensure that when driving, all daily vehicle checks are carried out and that the vehicle is driven in a safe and courteous manner, and that the vehicle always remains in legal tolerance.
· To ensure all operational work is carried out to a high standard and to the satisfaction of your supervisors.
· To ensure that all allocated works are completed within the notified timescales and that you attend morning and end of day debrief.
· To support the crew by updating the PDA tablet during the working day. Ensuring that any waste/recycling not presented at the allocated point is recorded.
· To act and behave in line with Our Values.
· To ensure that all duties are carried out correctly and safely when loading waste/recycling and spillage are cleared up immediately.
· To support other crews as directed by your supervisor to ensure services are completed on time.
· To ensure you carry out and record any routine maintenance, daily checks, defect reports and vehicle washing.
· To support in achieving our business objectives and complying with all procedures in line with the ISO accreditations.
· To undertake relevant training as part of your role.
Person Specification
Qualifications
· Hold a Category C (HGV Class II) Driving License alongside a valid CPC card. (Essential)
· A good level of literacy and numeracy for completing daily paperwork and electronic forms including drivers log sheets and vehicle defect books. (Essential)
Experience
· Driving: 1 year (Essential)
· Driving a Goods Vehicle: 1 year (Desirable)
· Knowledge of the local area (Desirable)
· Experience in the Waste/Recycling Sector (Desirable)
· Experience with using work/round planning software e.g. Collective (Desirable)
· Knowledge of how to operate a waste collection vehicle (Desirable)
Skills and Aptitudes
· Manoeuvring an HGV through narrow roads, over difficult terrain and working with a refuse collection crew requires a high degree of mental concentration. (Essential)
· Driving a refuse collection vehicle requires considerable hand /eye/limb coordination both for manoeuvring the vehicle and supporting the collection team in emptying containers. (Essential)
· Professional communication style in line with our company values. (Essential)
· Be a team player, and self-motivated to maintain a high degree of productivity during the working day. (Essential)
· Flexibility and good work ethic (Essential)
Other Requirements
· No more than six license points
. Must be able to commit to a 5 day working week 07.00-15.30 (It is a condition of your employment that you will work overtime if required to do so, as all rounds must be completed at the end of each day) and you must have the ability to work as part of a team within a manually intensive setting
Full PPE, training and health and safety induction will be provided.
NOTE
From time to time, you may need to undertake work as determined by your supervisor up to or at a level consistent with your role. Crews generally operate Monday to Friday with the occasional weekend working.
