About the Role
We are looking for an organised, committed and motivated Cook to join our team at Moorland on a permanent basis. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wants to contribute to the smooth running of the home, leading on and supporting the preparation of nutritious meals for our service users and maintaining a clean, safe kitchen area. You will play an essential role in the smooth running of the home.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare and cook meals and snacks following the dietary requirements, including allergies of each service user in accordance with Health & Safety Regulations to ensure meals are nutritious, appetising and meet dietary needs.
· Adjust recipes and portions to accommodate individual Service Users needs and preferences.
· Collaborate with, healthcare professionals and the nursing team to develop menus that promote both physical and mental well-being.
· Adhere to all health, safety and sanitation standards, including maintaining clean and organised kitchen workspaces.
· Ensure the correct handling and storage of food and kitchen supplies.
· Monitor food temperatures and cooking time to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
· Interact with Service Users in a compassionate and respectful manner, being mindful of their physical and emotional well-being.
· Seek feedback from Service Users and staff regarding meal preferences and adjust menus accordingly.
· Undertake stock control, recording goods to be ordered to ensure adequate supplies are maintained.
· Excellent understanding and knowledge of HACCP.
· Ensure correct portion control and reduce food waste where possible.
· Work closely with other kitchen staff, dietary aides, and nursing staff to ensure timely meal service.
· Assist in training and supporting new kitchen staff when necessary.
About You
· Health and safety certificate.
· Food Hygiene certificate level 2 or above.
· HNC level 2 or above in Food Preparation and Cooking.
Skills
· Ability to prepare meals that are both nutritious and appetising.
· Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation standards.
· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and person-centred approach.
· Ability to work well in a team and under pressure, especially in a fast-paced environment.
Experience
· Proven experience as a Cook in a healthcare setting, preferably in a mental health or nursing home environment.
· Knowledge of special dietary requirements, including allergies, diabetes management, and food intolerances.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a compassionate and patient-centred approach.
· Ability to work well in a team and under pressure, especially in a fast-paced environment.
