Our Actuarial Public team sits at the heart of our public sector consulting practice, partnering with Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) funds and other public sector clients to provide trusted advice on some of their most important pension challenges. They combine strong technical expertise with commercial and strategic thinking, helping clients manage funding, risk and regulatory requirements while keeping member outcomes at the forefront. Their work is diverse and rewarding, often bringing together specialists from across our actuarial, investment, administration and technology teams to deliver innovative solutions and make a lasting impact in the public sector pensions landscape.
We have an exciting opportunity for an Associate Actuarial Consultant to join our growing team. This is an ideal role for a part-qualified actuary looking to build on their technical expertise, develop strong client relationships and gain exposure to a broad range of actuarial and consulting work across the LGPS.
What will your role look like?
As an Associate Actuarial Consultant, you'll work closely with colleagues across our Actuarial Public Business Unit, as well as others from our investment, governance, administration and technology teams, to deliver high-quality advice and excellent outcomes for our clients.
You'll support a portfolio of clients, predominantly LGPS administering authorities and participating employers, helping them navigate complex pensions challenges and make informed decisions. You'll have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise, consulting skills and client management experience, while contributing to innovative projects and service developments across the business.
Though this is a varied role, your key responsibilities will include:
-
Acting as a client co-ordinator on a portfolio of client accounts, ensuring work is delivered on time, within budget and to a high standard.
-
Preparing and checking a range of actuarial calculations, including funding valuations, accounting disclosures and calculations in respect of employers joining or leaving LGPS funds.
-
Preparing client communications, reports and presentations and attending client meetings.
-
Building and maintaining strong client relationships, developing an understanding of clients' wider challenges and objectives.
-
Managing aspects of client account administration, including monitoring work in progress and liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
-
Supporting and developing less experienced colleagues through coaching, training and sharing knowledge.
-
Contributing to proposition development, process improvement initiatives and the delivery of wider business objectives.
-
Undertaking people management responsibilities where appropriate.
-
Acquiring and maintaining a strong understanding of the firm's products, services and areas of expertise.
If you enjoy and have experience of the following, we think you'll love this opportunity:
-
Making progress towards qualification with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
-
Experience of pensions actuarial work and an understanding of the legislative framework affecting UK pension schemes.
-
Strong technical actuarial skills, including experience of actuarial calculations and pension valuations.
-
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build trusted relationships with clients and colleagues.
-
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
-
Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills.
-
A proactive approach to learning and developing technical, consulting and leadership skills.
-
The ability to work collaboratively and contribute positively to team success.
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, supported by excellent attention to detail.
-
An interest in developing a career within the Local Government Pension Scheme and wider public sector pensions market.
-
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets.
We would also encourage applications from candidates who may not yet meet every requirement listed above. If you have a solid foundation of relevant experience, are progressing with your actuarial qualifications and are motivated to learn and develop, we'd love to hear from you. We provide a supportive environment, excellent coaching and a range of opportunities to help you build a rewarding actuarial career with us.
