The Opportunity: The Apprenticeship has been designed in line with the principles of the Coach Core programme to help a young person develop skills in community development, sports participation, volunteer management, events, administration, customer service and club operations to create a foundation for a career in sport or business management. The Apprentice will be supported by a structured programme of learning, mentoring and practical experience, to make a positive contribution to both Stratford Sports Club and the wider community.
Purpose of the Role: The Apprentice will work closely with the Head of Sports, volunteers, section committees and colleagues across the Club to help deliver community engagement, participation, wellbeing and volunteer initiatives across all sports and activities. The Apprentice will gain hands-on experience in administration, customer service, membership management, event delivery, financial procedures and operational support, and will gain a broad understanding of how a successful multi-sport club operates.
Key Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Development: Assist with the organisation and promotion of community open days, sports festivals, taster sessions, health and wellbeing initiatives, including Sporting Memories sessions, and act as a positive ambassador for Stratford Sports Club within the local community.
Volunteer Development: Assist in coordinating volunteer events and community activities, help with volunteer training, promote volunteering opportunities to schools, colleges, and community groups, and maintain volunteer records. Support the Club's Designated Safeguarding Lead with the administration of DBS checks for coaches and volunteers, the maintenance of records and training relating to coaching qualifications, safeguarding training and first aid certifications.
Partnership & Outreach Support: Assist in developing sporting relationships with schools, colleges, local authorities, healthcare providers, charities and community organisation, attending meetings, networking events and community forums as appropriate, identifying opportunities for collaborative projects and local engagement.
Administration, Systems & Club Operations: Support the day-to-day administration of community programmes, events and Club activities, thereby gaining a thorough understanding of multi-sport Club administrative and operational functions, including familiarity with the MyClubHouse membership, booking and communication system. The Apprentice will support reception and customer service when required, respond to enquiries in a professional and welcoming manner, and assist with administrative tasks.
Financial Administration: The Apprentice will assist with processing and recording payments for memberships, events, programmes and activities, and invoice preparation, under appropriate supervision to develop an understanding of financial controls and procedures in a community sports club.
Marketing & Communications: The Apprentice will assist in promoting Club activities through social media, digital platforms and local media, and help gather photographs, testimonials and case studies to demonstrate programme impact.
Monitoring & Reporting:
The Apprentice will support the collection and recording of participation and programme data, assist in monitoring volunteer engagement and programme outcomes and help prepare reports for management, stakeholders and funding applications
