Reports to: Site Operations Manager
Role Overview: You will be based at our High Carr site, responsible for safe and efficient installation, removal, setting and commissioning of the compression mould tools on hydraulic presses up to 1200 tonnes, ensuring production tooling is set correctly to achieve optimum quality, productivity and safety while supporting SMED (Single Minute Exchange of Dies) principles to minimise downtime.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Production, Engineering, Tooling and Quality teams to maximise equipment availability and maintain the highest level of manufacturing standards.
What our new ‘Mould Technician’ you be doing:
· Safe removal and installation of compression mould tools on hydraulic presses up to 1200 tonne.
· Carrying out complete tool changeovers in line with SMED principles to minimise machine downtime.
· Setting and commissioning moulds to achieve first-off quality approval.
· Connecting and disconnecting hydraulic, steam and cooling services to mould tools.
· Setting mould parameters including press stroke, daylight, pressure and cure cycles.
· Ensuring steam heated tooling is operating correctly and within specified temperature ranges.
· Reading and interpreting engineering drawings, tooling drawings and production specifications.
· Operating overhead cranes and Forklift Trucks safely during the tool movements.
· Completing pre-start safety inspections on the lifting equipment and tooling.
· Troubleshooting tooling and process issues to minimise downtime.
· Working with the Production and Quality departments to resolve moulding defects.
· Carrying out routine preventative maintenance and inspection of the mould tooling.
· Ensuring the tooling is cleaned, stored and maintained to the required standard.
· Supporting continuous improvement projects to reduce the changeover times and improve OEE.
· Maintaining high standards of housekeeping using 5S principles.
· Following the Health & Safety procedures including LOTOTO (Lock Out Tag Out Try Out), lifting operations and permit systems, where required.
· Support plant machinery maintenance with PPM’s.
· Other general duties as and when required
The experience our new ‘Mould Technician’ will have includes:
· Previous experience with setting large industrial mould tools.
· Experience of working with hydraulic compression presses up to 1200 tonnes (or similar).
· Experience with hydraulic systems, steam heated mould or tooling.
· Understanding of the thermoset composite moulding process is desirable.
· Previous experience working within manufacturing environment.
· Previous experience of operating Forklift Truck and overhead cranes.
· Ability to interpret engineering and technical drawings.
· Mechanical fitting experience.
· Experience with fault finding on the moulding processes.
· Experience using precision measurement equipment.
· Reliable, flexible and able to work under pressure, with ability to work shifts.
