MULTI-SKILLED MAINTENANCE OPERATIVE
Location: Coventry and surrounding areas
Salary: Up to £30,000 per annum, pro rata (equivalent to up to £2,500 gross for the initial one-month contract)
Hours: Full Time – 9am – 5pm, Monday to Friday with 1 hour paid lunch break.
Contract: Initial one-month temporary contract, with the potential to become permanent

ABOUT VERTO LIVING CIC
Verto Living CIC provides supported accommodation for vulnerable adults across Coventry and the wider West Midlands.
We are looking for a practical, reliable and hardworking Multi-Skilled Maintenance Operative to support the ongoing upkeep of our growing property portfolio. The successful candidate will work under the direction of our Maintenance Manager and assist with general repairs, decorating, gardening and property improvement work.
PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The purpose of the role is to ensure that Verto’s properties remain safe, presentable and well maintained.
The successful candidate will complete a range of planned and reactive maintenance tasks across our properties. They will need to work professionally around residents, communicate effectively with staff and maintain appropriate boundaries while working within supported accommodation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Complete general repairs and maintenance across Verto’s property portfolio.
- Undertake painting and decorating, including preparation, filling, sanding and finishing.
- Complete basic joinery, plumbing and other general handyman tasks within the limits of your competence.
- Carry out gardening and external property maintenance.
- Assist with property clearances, waste removal and the preparation of rooms for new residents.
- Assemble furniture and install fixtures, fittings and household equipment.
- Identify additional repairs or safety concerns while attending properties and report these to the Maintenance Manager.
- Complete work in accordance with the priority and timescale assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
- Provide staff with appropriate updates when jobs are completed, delayed or require further work.
- Record completed work, photographs and relevant notes using Verto’s maintenance reporting systems.
- Use company equipment, tools and vehicles responsibly.
- Follow all health and safety, lone-working, safeguarding and property-access procedures.
- Communicate respectfully with residents while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
- Refer any support, welfare or safeguarding concerns to the appropriate member of staff.
- Work collaboratively with the Maintenance Manager, support teams, landlords and approved contractors.
- Undertake any other reasonable maintenance duties required by the organisation.
The role will not involve undertaking gas, electrical or other regulated work unless the employee holds the necessary qualifications and has been authorised by Verto to complete it.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential:
- Previous experience in property maintenance, construction, decorating, gardening or a similar practical role.
- Competence in a range of general maintenance tasks.
- Ability to complete work safely and to a good standard.
- Ability to organise workload and respond to changing priorities.
- Good communication and problem-solving skills.
- Professional and respectful approach when working around vulnerable adults.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel between properties across Coventry and the surrounding areas.
- Willingness to complete an Enhanced DBS check.
- Commitment to safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
Desirable:
- Experience working within supported housing, social housing, care or a similar environment.
- Formal trade, maintenance or health and safety qualifications.
- Experience in painting and decorating, joinery, basic plumbing or gardening.
- Experience using digital systems to receive jobs and record completed work.
- Asbestos awareness, manual handling, working at height or other relevant training.

SAFEGUARDING

CONTRACT ARRANGEMENT
The position will initially be offered on a one-month temporary basis. Performance, conduct, attendance, suitability for the role and the ongoing requirements of the organisation will be reviewed during this period.
Subject to a successful review and continued business need, there may be an opportunity for the position to become permanent. This does not constitute a guarantee of permanent employment.
Pay: £25,420.00-£30,000.00 per year
